Catherine Connolly really doesn’t strike me as a smooth political operator.
When she announced her campaign, it was obvious Gemma would be a key question she would be asked about. She should’ve been prepared to take questions on it but she wasn’t. Whenever she was asked about it, she gave some wishy washy answer like „it was a long time ago“ etc.
She could’ve easily explained it away there and then, but didn’t and it’s following her throughout the campaign.
Why would you nominate someone you don’t support?
Michael D nominated David Norris iirc, so a nomination and an endorsement aren’t the same (Higgins was endorsing himself, naturally). Whether it was right to nominate O’Doherty is another question.

Campaign all but over after that car crash interview. She didnt support Assad but met his representatives. She didnt aupport O’Doherty but nominated her.
Time to end the campaign before hundreds of thousands of Euro is flushed down the drain by Labour, the Soc Dems and PBP. She isn’t a member of any of them so they are throwing away badly needed money for other elections on a woman who has zero respect for them and even less chance of winning after today.
The fact that she’s supported by Paul Murphy was reason enough to not consider voting for her, but every time she opens her mouth she strengthens the case

This is going to be the most underwhelming presidential campaign of all time. No candidate impresses.
All Gavin has to do is keep talking to minimal and he will run away with it.
I’m all for her supporting a nomination for the purposes of democracy and allowing someone to run, but her problems arise when she supports someone like O’Doherty.
She either did her due diligence and decided O’Doherty was worthy of a nomination despite the hateful shit she was spewing.
Or
She nominated her without doing any due diligence at all.
Neither option cover her in glory.
