    1. If I had to think of a way that this goes terrifically badly, it would be this tool using (or starting with) a general-purpose LLM that was trained on the internet as a whole, and it’s determiners of who ‚higher risk‘ people are being based less on objective fact and more the general sentiment of the internet, and hence essentially becomes that Peter Griffin skin color meme.

    2. There really shouldn’t be any use of AI on personal data by the government without robust digital privacy protections. GDPR has been around for awhile and the Canadian government hasn’t followed suit with similar legislation yet, for what reasons exactly?

    3. Id really love to know who theyd consider higher risk. It feels like this is ripe for situations where people could get falsely flagged

This is 100% going to lead to algorithmic racial profiling. Also sex profiling. Absolutely terrible idea, and it shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the weaknesses of AI models.

I don’t think AI is useless and I’m sure there are theoretically many areas that it could be potentially very beneficial if implemented well, but I am increasing convinced that it will not be implemented well and the net effect on our society will be very negative.

    5. Stop using “AI” like ancient people would’ve said “computers”. What kind of AI, what vendor, is it Canadian, was it contracted out, are consultants setting it up or is it in-house etc etc?
