It would be pretty damn funny if he loses his leadership review. Not as funny as it would have been for him to lose his by election, but still pretty funny.
Why would conservatives think that PP has what it takes to win?
Truth is, the CPC wants a strong man leader that bullies their opponents and engages in culture war rhetoric.
They want a Donald Trump, they want a strong man to lead the party and create a dynamic similar to that in the US. They want CPC MPs to break decorum, they want them to target groups they don’t like, they want revenge for the perceived slights of liberal secular society.
PP is the closet thing they have right now, and unless someone can be a bigger bully to everyone they don’t like, PP will continue to be the CPCs choice. The fact everyone but CPC supporters recognize the parallels with Trump, shows they’re deep in their information bubble.
The information divide between CPC supporters and the rest of Canada is much further than I think most people realize.
And he deserves every bit of the scrutiny he’s receiving.
What an epic fumble, losing that lead. So what, Carney came along and elbowed him our of contention. Where were PP’s elbows? I mean, how can he have been in politics *for so very long* without learning to pivot? What does that say about the man, or the stuff of his substance?
Then we have that utter Goblin Jenni Bryne lurking in the corners, FFS. Get a grip and get around to displaying the stuff of governance. Drop the petty identity shit. We don’t like it when the other guys delve into it, either. It’s fringe bullshit for two-bit chumps.
The party is stuck between a rock and a hard place right now. If they get rid of him, they lose his diehard base. But if they don’t, they can’t win elections.
PP is a region beta paradox candidate.
Appeals to his polarized side enough to stay leader, but can’t gain enough in the center to win.
The real problem his party has is that there isn’t anyone else. He’s the last in a line of mediocre candidates.
I’d bet money they keep him.
This writer has no idea what they are talking about.. Poilievre is the primary reason I am so proud to be part of the CPC. I have not been this proud since Harper, at least on a federal level.
Daniel Smith, Doug Ford, and Mike Harris are/were amazing leaders as well, and they bring a lot of pride to the movement.
The conservative movement has its challenges, but with Poilievre and Smith in our own country and with the big man Trump to our South, it has not been this exciting being a conservative since Mulroney, Reagan, and Thatcher were in power.
If we picked Charest, we’d be in government right now. Too bad. A real missed opportunity.
Currently, I’m unconvinced his hold on the party has slipped. People were speculating that he’d drastically underperform his by-election but that came up to nothing so right now I predict he’ll be fine.
Still have no idea how though. If a Liberal had screwed up a lead this big, I’d want him ran out on a bullet train.
