State should stop subsidizing water utility costs. While awareness campaigns such as “Bir damcı qoruyaq”, “Axır niyə” were commendable, naive initiatives for addressing the water waste problem, unless people start paying the full price for the utility costs they won’t stop wasting water, gas, electricity etc.

    3. Main reasons are agriculture , especially cotton farming, wasteful irrigation and leakage due to old water systems.

I’m not sure if it’s just my household but I notice ladies here tend to shower twice a day, whereas in many other countries it’s common to shower only once in the morning and then again only if doing physical activity.

Obsession over having a clean car also leads to likely higher numbers of car washes per year.

As the middle class grows, more and more people will start using dishwashers and laundry machines…this may have a positive impact on water use as they are now more efficient than hand/sink washing.

As drought begins to seriously impact the water tables in Azerbaijan, the cost of water will sky rocket and people will have to be more responsible. Industries that rely heavily on water will have to start huge desalination projects with the Caspian and jack up their end product prices as well.
