Not exactly the best bunch of people to get advice from.
It’s a good deal, and the best one we’ll get. Have it done and dusted before QC has their provincial election or we’ll get nothing. Does it favour Quebec? Yes. Is it the best we’ll probably be able to get? Also yes. At the very least it’s more akin to a partnership than anything we’ve had before, and it doesn’t involve the NL government hiring some goobers to muck up the construction.
I’m confused, wasn’t Newfoundland and Labrador just widely celebrating the dramatic improvement in terms with the new power deal? Believing that there is an even better deal here sounds very naive- Quebec will need clean baseload power, not just for their clean energy transition, but also for their very competitive aluminum industry. They mothballed their nuclear reactors because the old Churchill Falls terms promised them power for years. What’s stopping Quebec from exploring a next generation CANDU Monark if NL decides to screw around?
