I didn’t know this until this summer but have heard of a few cases, and people telling me it’s not uncommon to keep a body of a loved one after they pass for one last night as a goodbye.

Have heard one sad one in Norway where a young child of someone I’ve met who was fighting with an illness passed away. The ambulance came, pronounced the child dead, And they and their kids wanted more time to say good bye, and asked if they can keep the body for an overnight and they let them, and picked it up in the morning. This might be more than 10-20 years ago. They treated that as a personal wake.

At first I thought it was weird, but hearing their story in detail it was a very sweet goodbye. And then heard of a few other instances of people doing that.
