Former Democratic President Barack Obama warned Thursday that the Trump administration’s growing use of the military for domestic operations threatens due process and civil liberties.
Obama posted on X, „The erosion of basic principles like due process and the expanding use of our military on domestic soil puts the liberties of all Americans at risk and should concern democrats and republicans alike.“
His comments came as the Department of Homeland Security asked Naval Station Great Lakes, a military base north of Chicago, for logistical support in potential immigration crackdowns. The request follows recent deployments of National Guard troops to Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., as part of a broader federal push on crime, homelessness and immigration.
Its fucking insane how major of news this would have been 10 years ago (NOT even speaking specifically to the comparison of „can you imagine Obama?!“) whereas now its just like „yeah we TOLD you this was going to happen you idiots!“
Even an ex-president saying these things barely registers in peoples‘ minds anymore… its horrific.

At what point do these cities really start to fight back? At some point someone has to stand up based on the principle of the whole thing.

Pretty fucking wild to see this being sanewashed so blatantly. I haven’t been alive that long. But if a Democratic President had deployed troops to a place like Dallas or Miami? Republicans and Conservatives would have been screaming bloody murder about it.
Clearly there are different standards for behavior here.

Mexican Independence day is in a few weeks, and if you know anything about Chicago and Mexican Independence day, the trumpenreich are going to get exactly what they are looking for. One of the few weekends in the city that goes off the rails like clockwork.

Just start some needed road construction outside the entrance to the base, and pass a by-law restricting heavy vehicles on city streets.

Crime in Chicago is down 57% in the last 4 years.
The city is the safest it’s been since crime peaked in Trump’s last term.

If they come here to Chicago they will be in for a hell of a fight. We won’t open the door or roll over like the red states.
Some people here are talking like full blown resistance fighters.

If Obama had done literally *any one* of the horrible things Trump has in just the past month (tariffs, mobilizing the National Guard, trying to bury the Epstein files, taking a 10% stake in Intel, and so many more), hospitals across the country would be overwhelmed with conservatives seeking treatment for aneurysms and heart attacks.

Thanks, Obama, I think we ALL understand this. The question is, as someone who has a helluva lot more power, pull, and authority than we do, what can YOU do to support us instead of point out the obvious? Where is our American leadership, including past, when we need it the most. I get it takes us as a collective, but we also need leadership and guidance, not just political sidelines.

Need to remind people that sadly this is what Americans voted for in 24.

If there is a democrat in power again none of that sweeping shit under the rug crap that Obama pulled. This is a direct result of the lack of consequences and justice. Remember when Bush Jr tortured people and got away with it?
Trials for ICE and military who violated their oaths. They can be put in the same jails they built for brown people.

If Obama had even hinted at this shit, he would have been impeached and ousted in a heartbeat.

Why are you saying like this when you know good and well that Americans can’t understand this shit? I’m college educated and well-read, and even I zoned out after the first few words.
If anyone can put their finger on the scales of this cold civil war, it’s YOU. So maybe you could try something different and more forceful.
Or just keep “going high” to make yourself feel better.

Deploying the national guard and ICE across blue states and cities is part of an effort to create a major civil disobedience incident.
This mirrors the third Reich playbook leading up to the Reichstag fire incident in 1933 that resulted in the quick passage of the enabling act that ended civil liberties.
Manufacture a crisis. Declare a public emergency. Create a major civil disobedience incident. Implement martial law. Suspend civil liberties and free elections in the name of public safety
