And he’s right. Think through how many countries have military patrols on their own soil, and cross reference that with what countries are dictatorships.

The bigger problem with this is that even when Trump leaves office and even assuming American democracy survives his presidency, he’s created a precedent that’s almost certainly going to be used to justify future uses of the military on American soil.

People often talk about Trump in extreme terms, saying he’s becoming a dictator (and he’s certainly trying to), but **even if** he fails, he’s going to have paved the way so that it’ll make it much easier for future Presidents to become dictators.

I just don’t see America going back to how it was before Trump once he leaves office. It’s going to be changed permanently.

Would love to see Obama, as leader of the Democratic Party, be a wee more forceful than this!

    4. Our Cheeto Caesar that put this in play would not shut up for years with his idiotic claim that Obama was not born in the United States. His plans to destroy the American way began long ago. Didn’t it?

It’s all good! Justice Roberts has assured us that the court is „worried the President is stretching the rubber band of democracy in ways it simply has never been stretched before“.

Just simply stretching democracy. A new stretch! but still just a lil stretch, and we will rebound back to a more comfortable level of democracy anytime. I’m sure from now on they will reign in the executive powers, surely.

I long for the day we had actual leaders who respected the norms and institutions, and most importantly the Constitution, of these United States. Le sigh.

Trump is only where he is today because the Republican party is using him as a puppet too. They have have their guy who can usher in every shitty, hateful piece of legislation they’ve always wanted to push through.

Trump doesn’t know wtf he’s doing or how to be presiden, we know this from his first awful term. He’s simply being told what to do and how to do it.

Mr. Obama tried to play nice with these guys. Respectfully, he can piss off.

Americans who dont know this won’t until they see it affect them personally

Quite a few Americans don’t seem to care or some even support it. Very sad state of affairs.

    11. It doesn’t “put liberties at risk.” It’s *already* taking them away. The whole point is to intimidate people into constraining their own behavior.

No shit Barry, why don’t you roll up your sleeves and get into this fight!

It is SO effed up that he has to remind us about that, and even MORE messed up that there are people out there RIGHT NOW saying „The face eating leopard is never going to eat MY face, he’s just nibblin my chin!“

It’s basically Trump’s version of Hitler’s SS, trial runs to hold America hostage under a dictator who’s tearing the country apart faster than ever. No checks and balances since Republicans are complicit in the downfall and destruction of America so the GOP deep state oligarchs control everything.

    15. As a former President I feel like he needs to become more confrontational with Trump. His position mixed with Newsom’s hard edge could cause some fireworks. Just like the Trump camp likes to flood the zone-if Obama and some Governors started hogging the national stage with messages like this -it would cause more panic in the Trump Whitehouse and reverse uno a flood to their zone.

Obama has earned his day of leisure but he is really one of a handful of people who can cause damage to Trump personally and we need him to stand up for this country. Theres no one else. I wish he would answer the call now before it gets worse. All of t his hinges on whether or not Obama is a puppet to the DNC who wants to act like its business as usual and „if you just donate 7 dollars we’ll show them!!“

    16. As others have stated. It sets a dangerous precedent.

Thats the (BIG) problem. I dont care what side of the fence you’re on. Using the same line of thought, this is why I hate how cameras (and facial recognition) are everywhere. Sure, they’re not being used for anything malicious (yet), but to me, it’s only a matter of time before somebody decides to use them for surveilling citizens.

It’s always about the big picture. This is why people are understandably concerned with almost everything this clown does. Seeds are planted.

    17. Why not just defund the federal government and push most of this back to the states. Trump can’t be a dictator of a weak federal government. That would also mean weakening the military since he is using the military against the states. Maybe clarify that the national guard can never be nationalized unless the governor of a state agrees. Also give states a blank check to create whatever state federation they want from Congress (ie blank check congressional approval for state federations).

Basically everything I said is what the republicans basically say they want and I’m okay with it to avoid a Trump situation again. Nothing about it is unconstitutional and could be pretty much implemented with one budgetary vote after a prolonged shutdown.
