What exactly makes it a hate crime? Based on the mixed messages of slogans written on the guns and magazines, the shooter just seemed to be a mentally disturbed person going for the most shock value possible. It’s hard to say they had any other motive or political inclinations beyond that. They had messages against Trump, against Hispanics, against jews. They had meme references and edgelord 4chan quotes. Aside from picking a Catholic school as the target it doesn’t really seem like it was an anti-religion shooting or anything.
But okay, what difference would it make to call it a hate crime anyway? Does it change anything? Would you feel vindicated somehow?
