I’m happy for someone to correct me on this, but my understanding of this whole conflict was that it was less about a complex legal situation and more that it’s actually pretty straightforward according to treaties that the Saugeen First Nation owns the beach, it’s just that an old survey ignored a recently signed treaty.

I’m up around there every summer and there’s definitely a pretty sizeable contingent of residents up there who have absolutely no interest in being cooperative with the First Nations as the article implies.
