A new study published in PNAS Nexus suggests that people are more likely to believe conspiracy theories about the **2024 attempted assassination of Donald Trump** if they heard them from people they know rather than from social media or news outlets. While conspiracy theories spread widely across platforms like Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), the researchers found that interpersonal networks played a stronger role in shaping belief.
Participants were first asked if they had heard about the Trump assassination attempt. Those who were aware of the incident were then asked where they had received their information—options included television, radio, newspapers, social media, news websites, podcasts, or from people they know. Respondents could select multiple sources. The researchers used this information to examine how different channels of communication were linked to awareness and belief in two specific conspiracy theories: one claiming that Democratic operatives orchestrated the shooting, and another alleging that the event was staged altogether.
Other factors associated with belief included approval of Trump, political partisanship, and a higher score on the conspiratorial thinking scale. These variables tended to predict belief in expected ways. For instance, **Republicans and Trump supporters were more likely to believe the Democratic operative theory, while Democrats were somewhat more open to the idea that the event was staged.**
This is probably because one group believes everything Trump tells them and the other group believes that he is a liar and cannot be trusted.
Perhaps if there had been a thorough, transparent, independent, and nonpartisan investigation into the shooter, there would be less room for speculation.
I don’t believe it was staged, the shooter wanted to assassinate either one of them.
I DO wholeheartedly believe they lied about his ear. Mainly because the angle of the shooter in relation to him would have put the bullet in his head had it hit the ear. He got scratched by the watch of the agent and they played it up to no end.
A lot of people are saying it had to be staged. Not me, but a lot of people. Why would they let him stand up if they hadn’t ruled out a second gun man. It’s just the crooked heritage foundation. And I’ll tell you, they’re going to try rig the election too

Isn’t this kind of obvious? Sometimes I question why they do studies like this just to state something that you could easily assume without the study.
So basically, what it comes down to is that we are all conspiracy theorists at heart when the facts don’t align with beliefs.
Republicans believe immigrants eat cats because some traitorous clown told them so. They believe climate change is f4kE n00z. And a slew of even more mindless stupidity. They refer to truth as „woke“. The America of the past 249 years just doesn’t exist anymore.
This is a problem with cognitive dissonance the right think it’s democrats the left think it’s staged

So essentially a lot of people are open to the idea that it wasn’t just what was visible or reported regardless of side. I think this is good news, means healthy skepticism of political theatre isn’t dead for even some of the more polarized people. That’s pretty hopeful all things considered.
Trump, a lifetime democrat, suddenly turns republican and runs for office. He wins a second term after a suspicious shooting despite a coup attempt and numerous felony charges, proceeds to take extremely unpopular actions driving the lowest all time approval ratings.
Clearly the Democrats staged the shooting to get Trump elected knowing that the shooting could only boost his popularity the way the attempt on Hitler did. They have a planned obsolescence that Trump will be so hated an unpopular that he will pass the torch back to the democrats and the political pendulum will swing so far that Democrats will be welcomed with open arms as they launch their own autocracy and force everyone to be gay.

Anyone who watched ronald Reagan’s attempt and compared it to the totality of available media from this one KNOWS in their heart it was faked. At minimum something is severely wrong.

I don’t get down for a lot of conspiracy theories and I don’t want to be on the wrong side of anything, but Trump was literally on big time wrestling, and if you don’t recognize his interest in manipulating people, you’re a sucker. To me, that’s worse than being skeptical about the circumstances of that assassination attempt.

There was this episode of Spartacus „old wounds“. „Check the wound“ would solve this. That ear looks pretty damn never injured the gigantic bandaid was pure theater. The photographer team and that pose. Yeah this was staged with the kid being manipulated and allowed access to that roof. Gun was likely tampered with as well to make sure he couldn’t make that shot.
What if I think it was just a common mass shooter (young, white, conservative/libertarian upbringing, obsessed with guns, social outcast, etc..) who absolutely tried to assassinate DJT to prove some kind of twisted point that he somehow mattered?
Not a dem but that was 100% staged. I don’t think the civilian casualties were planned but just acceptable collateral.
