      I can recommand another tool that is not mentioned in the article: [Mapy.com](http://Mapy.com)
      It is a Czech tool that shows real maps (not something full of services like Google). It works offline if you download the map on your phone/tablet.

      In short – EU has enough good alternatives to US companies. And EU also got own GPS constellation.
      So we have no excuse not to use them. But this article seems to be focused on „Old EU“ countries.

      Let’s not forget about Sygic (Bratislava, Slovakia) They were the very first people to have navigation for Apple Store. Unfortunately Apple was postponing the release for a month waiting for TomTom to be first..

      Too bad they all suck ass. Google Maps is still the best by a tremendous margin.

      The auto reroute function, which cant be disabled, of Google maps is enough of a reason alone to try alternatives. Its cost me so much time.

      I use Sygic, maps updated monthly (you can also download them), traffic, nice graphics, speed traps, car parks and also prices of the petrol stations. I used it this summer during a trip to Croatia and it worked quite well.

      There are lots of alternatives. People just don’t use them because Google Maps offer the best and most consistent experience.

      I wonder why Sygic is almost never mentioned in pieces like this. Not to shill or anything, but it is Slovakian company and as far as I can tell, it is more than viable alternative to gmaps.

      I stick with apple maps. Still US but at least is not leaking a lot of my info for better ads.

      Navigator is a free app that works quite well! Doesn’t require internet as well.
