SS: While often overlooked in global geopolitics the South Caucasus is emerging as a very significant arena for competition between the great power. This interview with regional expert Jennifer Wistrand discusses how the new US brokered peace deal between Azerbaijan and Armenia reshapes regional power dynamics away from Russia and Iran and toward the US, Turkey, and Europe. The interview also covers overlooked drivers of tensions within the region including the recent deteriorating of relations between Russia and Armenia and Azerbaijan. It also addresses tensions between Azerbaijan and Iran over Baku’s strategic partnership with Israel, a relationship which has taken on new significant in the wake of the 12-Day War.
