In Germany we call this Fachkräftemangel.

Decades of lobbying against much needed change and to protect their privileged position, as well as outright scandals (dieselgate) – and yet they are stil losers.

Someone explain to me why we call these industry moguls smart? And why we need to bend over backwards, sell out our planets health and suck up horrible trade deals to appease them?

The sad part about this is that the Germans in the industry did everything asked of them as well as they could. The engineers made world class designs, the plant workers became some of the world’s most skilled and worked diligently. It’s not any of their faults that their energy prices became noncompetitive from geopolitics and China started building instead of importing cars.

I know a solution to that, let’s further raise the co2 taxes on car production!
And as a bonus let’s raise co2 tax of car insurances!

The main problem is the European car industries were better than the Chinese ones because the Chinese couldn’t catch up on the quality and the decades of experience on engine building, then car quality fell to the ground and the EU forced electrification and choked engine diversity. Now its a no Brainer for anyone looking to buy a car, a BYD is better than anything European in its price range and actually feels better built.

Any market that came to be dominated by China, starting with small household appliances, has never came back. It also happened with electronic components, with smartphones. Now it’s the turn of cars. The Chinese keep prices low to the point of drying up an economic sector, so when you end up behind them…You won’t have the strength to get up because your sales are going down. It’s the end of our car market. All we can do is impose tariffs and use some of the money that would have gone to them to help our industries. If you can’t force people not to buy Chinese, you can at least finance ur industry.

Unfortunately, this way, we would all understand our poverty, what we can really buy if we did not have China and other countries lowering prices and giving value to our wages.China does this more than any government, much of our well-being and way of life depends on it. Not from enlightened labor policies, not from the short work week, or from social and civil rights. Much of what we have is supported by cost reductions, which unfortunately have the cost of increasingly draining our economies.
