People are in for a rude awakening come retirement or when they need to go into a care home.
Maybe Scotland and Scottish people need all that immigration they claim to love so much but don’t actually get.
England’s population is going to push the UK above Germany in a few decades.
Was 1855 a famine year? It feels weird their was times before any birth control with as low birth rates as now?
The definition of self-interest and personal preference overwhelm societal needs.
I can’t blame people for this, they are largely acting in there own interest and cultural norms have now built up against having more than two children at best.

Who would have thought that an unaffordable living would result in less children born from responsible couples.
People will point to costs, and they’re not wrong. But the bigger shift looks cultural. In many places the people still having kids are mostly lower-income households and migrant families. The real change is norms. For most of history it wasn’t socially acceptable to approach 40 unmarried and childless. Maybe there’s an evolutionary reason some behaviours we treat as normal today were stigmatised, and still are in much of the world.
Everyone’s freaking out about Immigration.
But no one cares about why the Government opened the door to legal immigration… Because we’ve not been making enough children to support the top heavy pensioner population.
They’ve done nothing to help and encourage people to have families young. Most are holding off, can’t afford houses and only have 0-2 kids.
So the quick fix is working age people being brought in from abroad, to work and pay taxes.
I remember High School in the 90s and my Modern Studies teacher telling us about Top Heavy Population models in the West. How healthier people means having a large pensioner age group which would lead us to an economic cliff. Pensions, health care, social care and not enough Tax payers to pay for it. Welp 20-30 years later here we are!
Governments knew it was coming and did nothing to stop it. Immigration and raising the Pension age is the responses.

Nobody can afford a house
By the time they can afford a house you’re in your mid 30s and biology says it’s much less likely to have kids
Even if you can have kids, childcare is too expensive
And even if you can consider one, two is a lot more money and many people don’t want to have an only child – so it’s often 2 or 0
No shit people are having fewer kids
I’m sitting with my newborn daughter next to me, but she nearly didn’t happen: we live in a low cost of living area and it was still a 50-50 whether we’d have kids, and given our age (back half of my 30s now) it was another 50-50 if it would be possible
People used to have 3-4 kids in their 20s, now it’s maybe 1-2 kids in your 30s. My grandmother at 90 has literally dozens of descendants, by the time I’m 90 I might have a handful
What are the pro independence people up to? Come on, get it on! For Scotland!
