      Not sure how much public opinion would be against his POV here anyway.

      Germany has a special relationship with Israel.

      I guess, Germany will recognise Palestine only under the condition that it will recognise the existence of Israel first. So, there would have to happen certain negotiations and treaties first (what are the borders, what are the capitals etc.), between Israel and Palestine, before Germany would officially recognise Palestine.

      That was expected. Given Germany‘s relationship with Israel, that’s the playbook they’re going to have to play for now. The move towards limiting the weapons deliveries was already a huge shake-up and the waves of that have yet to settle.

      I’m not German and not sure how did this came to my feed. I understood the EU countries before for not recognising Palestine. But now when there’s an extreme right wing government in Israel I see no way to solve this other than recognising Palestinian state.

      I’m Israeli and my GF is Palestinian (we are both Arabs) so my POV isn’t coming from someone who supports any side.

      Weeks ago our government started building settlements in area E1 which literally killed the Palestinian state solution. And a lot of people in the west complain about immigration? Like you support this act and then cry about the result that people had to leave?

      I was extremely Pro-Israeli before. And I still think the 7th of October is horrible. In the same way I believe that what is going in Gaza rn is horrible too without any difference.

      I really hope peace for everyone doesn’t really matter Jews, Muslims, Christians, atheists or any other religion or belief. It is very sad unfortunately. Since I knew my gf and how they live in the west bank my POV totally changed about my country and it is very sad where the extreme people are taking us to. Hope this war ends very soon.

      Honestly, that’s fine. Recognition of the Palestinian state is a symbolic move.

      Of much more importance is an end to weapon deliveries (where we must credit Merz with making some steps) and consequential sanctions at an EU level (which is still not done due to German reluctance in a big part).

      They’re prisoners of their past, which is not good to see. Germany and German people don’t need to eternally apologetic of that happened 80 years ago.
