Nurse here. If he were getting regular IV’s, they’d likely put a PICC line in, which would be located on the inside of his upper arm where it would be very difficult to spot. The likely cause are anticoagulants used to prevent blood from clotting in the lungs, legs, heart, etc. This would be in line with his press secretary stating that he is being treated for DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) i.e Blood Clots.
