It’s was the pet of Jacques Exotique and he lost his head before he could financially recover.

I can read French. All the smaller squares are accounts of attacks from these animals on humans.

At the bottom it says these are depictions of a ferocious beast named hiene which in French is almost identical to the word for hyena which would be hyene (with an accent on the e). It’s literally a hyena.

    3. I don’t believe in the supernatural or monsters. I think there are many extinct animals that have lead to the stories. Bigboot was probably a monkey of some sort who shouldn’t have been in north america but was brought there by pirates or colonizers.

Oh man, the movie Brotherhood of the Wolf was based on this story. It’s so good.

    5. So there is this theory of the beast being a hyena that escaped from a local menagerie. I like this one a lot

Based on the facial expression on the woman in the large middle image, I suspect that this publication might have been illustrated by an early example of what we would now call a Furry artist.

Wasn’t it explained already? Was it some big dog owned by one who did the investigation back in the day… or, again, I am mixing it up with something?
