      The british copied the french one during WW1 because the union jack looked too much like the german cross from the ground leading to a lot of friendly fire. They just switched the colours to differentiate themselves from the french.

      I’m gonna be really honest, I never understood the design choice. Call me stupid, but I don’t understand the point of going into a firefight with a bullseye drawn on you

      Edit: guys… It’s a joke. A funny haha. It’s borderline a reference to a cartoon I watched like 20 years ago (don’t remember the name; family of 4, all spies/secret agents. Teenaged daughter goes into battle with a roundel on her shirt and gets called out for it). You guys take things _way_ too seriously

      Oh and one country’s symbol is a footnote.

      The Nazi resemblance and the historical connotations aside, the German military emblems in general are honestly the coolest looking of them all. Portugal and Montenegro are cool too.

      For Austria; i think that’s just our armed forces logo in general

      Latvia, Denmark and Turkey needs to get together and decide which two need to come up with something more imaginative.

      Edit: Italy and Bulgaria too but Bulgaria only flies Soviet planes anyway so it can wait.

      Italy has actually 3-4 different roundels, the one here is one of the variant ones, the standard has equal parts of each of the colours, its also one of the oldest ones here, as it started being used in 1915.

      Why is it so populair to have a round target plate as country marking on aeroplanes. Is it to help the enemy to aim? 😉
