Der Druck auf die Turkidentität in Süd -Aserbaidschan ist wieder auf der Tagesordnung. Laut einem Bericht von Gunaz TV am 20. August 2025 wurde einem South Aserbaidschani -Turk eine Geburtsurkunde für sein Baby mit dem Namen „Tanrıya“ verweigert, da der Name in Turkic ist.

They probably wouldn’t allow the name “Tanrıya” to be given to a child in the Republic of Azerbaijan either.
Correction, because it’s not „islamic“. You guys do understand majority of persian names are banned in that country too, right?

There are tons of accepted turkic names on the list (+500). The thing is, even if the name is not on the list, you can get it approved as long as it is not deemed offensive, etc.
Nowadays, you can not have a name in any way related to god in any language in iran, not in farsi or any other language unless it is something from early days of Islam such as Abdullah. Any new use of the word God is 100% banned.

I think there’s more to this story. people can name their child, Turkic names.
there are lots of men, with the name „Bayram“ here. or girls named Asena. which is literally form Turkic mythology.

They have even started not allowing kids to be named kourush(cyrus) it amazes me how the iranian government(ir) is in denial of its roots and heritage. It’s literally scared of people naming their kids after the names mentioned in shahnameh. You think they would allow turkic or any other minority names? Man our lives no matter of what ethnic background gonna change so much when this occupying regime eventually falls!
Okay but seriously what kind of name is Tanrıya. I’m not sure but probably it might not be allowed in Azerbaijan too for being too weird lol
