Is running on pressing for a constitutional amendment for nonpartisan and technocratic redistricting a possible winner of a topic?

Republicans are not waiting around in the gerrymandering battle. In addition to Texas, they are already targeting [Missouri](https://www.politico.com/news/2025/08/05/missouri-redistricting-2026-midterms-00494356) and [Indiana](https://www.indystar.com/live-story/news/politics/2025/08/07/indiana-redistricting-why-vice-president-jd-vance-visiting-indiana-meeting-governor-mike-braun/85547224007/) to do mid-decade redistricting and draw out Democratic-held seats. Democrats cannot afford to wait around. States with Democratic governors and trifectas need to act *now*.

I am no fan of gerrymandering, but it’s the only way to prevent Republicans from drawing themselves a permanent majority in the House. We have to fight fire with fire. To get rid of gerrymandering once and for all, we need Democrats to win control of Congress and pass a federal law to get rid of gerrymandering nationwide, it will *never* happen under the GOP.

    3. Right now there’s a Republican person down here Texas ways saying something to the effect of “Supreme Court said we can do this to defend republican representation”.

So hell yeah Democrats can do the same and I hope they do it better and have a great time doing it.

Yes, and mercilessly. I don’t care if a single damn Republican doesn’t get elected in some states. These people have cheated and cheated and cheated and then inflicted massive pain on this country. It’s time to throw them out.

    5. „wow democrats are hypocritical they’re playing by the rules we are!“

The other thing Dems need to do is not just flat out abandon so many districts in this country. How many districts don’t even have a Dem candidate? There is a lot of Trump/Republican policy that is very unpopular even with Republican voters (if they knew about it). It sure would be satisfying if any gerrymander attempts by Republicans failed because Dems actually had candidates and could get out the vote to take those seats.

    7. We’re at war. The GOP have declared it and we, the people, are the ones suffering.

We are at war and we are willing for it to „remain bloodless ― if the *right* allows it to be“, but so far they’ve demonstrated they will not.

Prepare to defend your family, your neighbors, and your nation from the fascist violence of the right.

They are here, and they’re coming to your neighborhood. Make them regret it.

What states? Maybe we can start making some calls and sending some emails.

And it’s gotta happen fast. Think redistricting biggest blue states WELL before next midterm elections.

    10. Count_Jobula on

It’s not entirely their fault, but this system of “Democracy” is totally broken.

    11. Squaring up into hard red and blue states sounds like a step toward civil war.

    12. Has any state other than California taken steps to redistrict before 2026?

    13. GCN is going to wipe the floor with MAGA. I don’t think the mouth breathers can take their own medicine.

    14. Vegetable-Seaweed591 on

Yes! We need to push gerrymandering so hard that there is a national outcry for federal level laws to stop it.

    15. Subject-Cabinet6480 on

Can we skip the foreplay and go to war already. They keep pushing for it.

Punching someone out of the blue is a malicious act, punching someone back is self-defense. The whole point of not approving of gerrymandering is to not subvert the democratic process, in this case it would be done to directly offset the gerrymandering already in place and soon to be enacted by Republicans thereby reversing that subversion to a certain degree. You cannot preserve democratic ideals if you do not preserve democracy.

    17. Marylander here. We worked pretty hard to fix our gerrymandering. But if they’re gonna redraw the line, I fully support swapping back as our legislation has proposed.

Dems should lean so hard into gerrymandering that the GOP will be begging for a nationwide ban and a switch to a system that is truly representative. And then we should do that.

Thinking about Washington and Oregon redistricting, forcing their very red eastern sides would kinda be hilarious. They would lose their minds.
