Why are they conservatives, then? Does this mean conservatives are easily convinced to vote against their own interests?
This is something I observed long ago and still baffles me. Many people in the right speak and debate on certain topics like if they considered themselves to be wrong. Like it’s an enjoyable position to defend and didn’t ever considered if they actually believe in it. I don’t know. Its bonkers.
The problem is if you’re upset because you feel the solutions offered by the activists on the left don’t solve the problem, and you express that in any way at all you’re instantly labelled anti-<insert cause>, which makes you take sides and become tribalistic. The biggest obstacle of progressive policies today is the brand of activism behind it.
One side is gleefully calling for the essential rights and dignity of people in this country to be destroyed because they’re either liberal or a minority

Why is the article confusing left/right policies with progressive/conservative?
The study looks at traditional left wing policies and their support/morality amongst both left wing and right wing. Yet the article seems to equate right wing with conservatism and left wing with liberals. Which simply isn’t true. The vast majority of conservative Christian parties in Europe are very much center left. And the vast majority of liberal parties in Europe are right wing.
The entire words „conservative“ and „liberal“ barely even shows up in the study.
This article seems to take a study performed in Europe, and then apply American definitions of liberal/conservative/left/right to it, where liberal means left wing (which it doesn’t in Europe) and conservative is right wing (which it often doesn’t in Europe). It creates a certain dissonance. Why not just use the words used in the study?
Conservatism in the US at this point appears to be explicitly against leftist causes _because_ they see those causes as morally correct, and the desire of conservatives is mostly to hurt people they don’t like.
Reality has a liberal bias.
It’s all vibes and tribalism. Consistency and truth-finding don’t matter. Most of them were had cognitive dissonance and extreme tribalism hammered into their brains since birth through the influence of religion. And most humans lack the self-awareness to disentangle themselves from their upbringing.
Kinda because they do. A cornerstone of conservative ideology is to make lower class living unpleasant on purpose to get them to move socially upwards.
I bet they’re using the left/right definition based on the US. Otherwise almost everyone is a right winger.

I don’t particularly think morality is a good way for people to judge governance and state policy. As unpopular of an opinion that’s gonna be on reddit, we all can admit, sometimes you have to do the immoral thing. Real life isn’t just good guys and bad guys people. Sometimes there are some extremely immoral things that need to be done for a plethora of reasons. If you’re focused on nothing but the morality of how you govern/administrate you’re going to get walked all over or worse.

The left absolutely is more moral. They’re more idealistic. It’s their entire personality. The problem is that they’re too idealistic to the point of destroying themselves, and the right recognizes this.

Conservatives Republicans literally have no principles. Things they are against they lie about. Small government, controlled spending, free speech, science are all just a talking point. The only thing they actually practice is tax cuts for the richest.
Conservatives think that the only reason progressives voice their beliefs is for appearances. They can not imagine someone doing good out of the kindness of their heart because they themselves would never do that. So to them someone doing the moral thing is seen as pretentious and performative. Its of course completely absurd but they absolutely choose to do immoral things because they think everyone is like them and anyone who acts differently must be faking. Thats basically what the concept of „wokeness“ is all about. They have managed to make their voters think that someone doing good is actually a bad thing because the motivation is selfish.
Yea, one side argues for the benefit of ALL while the other side argues for the benefit of SELF. It’s pretty clear which side wins on morals.
One major problem is that most Republicans are *culturally Republican* meaning that they are *incapable* of voting for a Democrat. Even if they actually agree more with Dem policies, they will *never* vote for a Dem, because Dems are „whiny liberals“
