This almost happened to me!

What politicians don’t understood is that miscarriage complications go bad FAST. 

I didn’t realize, until I went through it twice – but death by blood loss isn’t about how much blood you lose. It’s about how fast you lose it! It’s hypovolemic shock. 

You can lose 80% of your blood and be walking around, so long as it happens slowly enough. I lost just about half of my blood over two days with one miscarriage, and I’m sure I was in danger, but I never circled the drain. 

With my next miscarriage, I only lost about a quarter of my blood, but it was over a couple of hours. I knew exactly how urgent my situation was (because of the first miscarriage). I knew I was losing too much, too quickly. I was begging, begging, begging for an immediate D&C. 

But, my regular hospital had lost their ambulance clearance at the time, so I’d been taken to a Catholic hospital. They refused to schedule a D&C until they could confirm fetal death (via ultrasound). It was the middle of the night, and sonographer on call was not answering. 

They left me without a call button, and no one came even though I screamed and screamed. I was very lucky, in that a minute before I started actively dying, a nurse just happened to check in on me. I remember watching my blood pressure hit 70/30 territory, and I texted my husband that I was scared. It felt so bad. I needed to throw up but I was too weak, and everything was spinning, and I was shaking so hard and so, so cold… 

The room got real crowded. They stabilized me (by pressurizing my blood?) and transfused me, got me my surgery in a few hours, and I lived. But, not everyone does. What if that nurse hadn’t happened to round just then? 

Anyway, I’m so sorry that these women died. 

And that’s how domestic terrorists are born.

This is what happens when you vote in men who want to lord over women’s bodies. Remember this in the midterms and vote like your life depends on it (because it does).

The GOP would rather protect pedophiles than women. They’re literally the worst.

They don’t care. They think dead women and miscarriages are a sign of strength. They are strong, manly men. If women and babies have to die to prove their emotional strength. So be it. They will persevere, no matter the consequences.

Otherwise, they might have to admit they were wrong. They will never be strong enough for that.
