Eh, some of those movies are clear warnings. The ethical and moral implications of artificial intelligence has been a rich source of philosophical debate and entertainment. Hell, Terminator was ultra popular and AI turning against us is essentially a societal meme.
There *is* legit concern, but it’s not going to be found in Hollywood despite the scaremongering from certain media. Laws from the current GOP removing a state’s ability to regulate AI/LLMs *should* be concerning. Large databases and LLMs a la Palantir should be a concern, but no one reads anything and they don’t actually care to do the work necessary to inform ourselves to actually discuss this topic intelligently and responsibly.
As an aside, it’s cracking me up that conservatives arguing with Grok has become a meme.
I just started playing the new(ish) game Cyberpunk 2077 and it’s pretty cool, but I couldn’t shake the sense that it was its own form of propaganda to get us normalized with the idea of merging man and machine. I’m sure there was some Fabian Society funding or something in there.

I would argue the film *Lucy* should not be on the list shown in the thread image. That film is not about ‚merging with machines‘ – even though she absorbs and devours some along the way, can interact with them, and even though she takes ‚drugs‘ to achieve her new state. These are allegorical illustrations of processes. The drug she takes is called ‚CPH4‘, which is simply the word ‚cipher‘ (that she suffers through) in disguise. The ‚flash drive‘ or ‚computer‘ she makes out of herself at the end is a symbol of her ‚parables‘ (stone tablets, Bible) of true knowledge that she was able to pass on to others along the journey. The movie is about the attainment of God-consciousness and merging with the Oneness of All (ala. Vedic scripture or Kabbalah and even Christianity) presented through a sci-fi-ish lens. A key scene that will be overlooked is during her interrogation in the fancy office of the mafia people, her asking God for help during her worst panic attack. She submits, and repents of her previous life right there. The ‚Cipher‘ is ‚God’s Word‘. She attains her transcendental state via ‚austerities‘ (sufferings of the yogi or monk who withdraws from the world). Her ascension beyond the body is not a ’satanic‘ rejection or pushing aside the god-given biology, but symbolic of attaining ‚Heaven‘ through the path laid out for her (a climbing of Jacob’s Ladder) – her spirit evolved beyond the body ’naturally‘ by her situation and her efforts and her judgements along the way..

I think your description of transhumanism is overly restrictive. A more liberal (IMHO more accurate) description would include pacemakers, hearing aids, artificial valves, prosthetics, etc. Realistically, nobody is going to reject this technology if it vastly improves your grandmother’s quality of life :/
