I’d like to pick on that. That doesn’t mean everythng he did was the demon’s fiddling.
People are still people and most act like one, weird or normal, good or bad. You can feel when it’s (coming from) them *them* and when it’s not. When you see a person ‚lose his mind‘, you feel weird. It lacks a reasonable, perceivable root and that bothers tf out of you – as some say, it’s like *’they’re not themselves’*.
If he was possessed by a demon, the relationship was definitely a symbiosis. For one, he guaranteedly enjoyed it, that alone proves it to me.
Note: I assume a demon can’t possess a person in the body (permanent full control) like that. If it can, humans have to be able to notice by feeling and observation too – this is based on how I perceive logic in a world like that, nuanced, but balanced; but in the end, apparently just.
About the term *’Ritual’*:
What you’re discussing is the target, if there was deeper intent. Doing what they did, the way they did, for the reasons they did is a ritual. The question is if it served to feed only them, or something else.
