Interesting how Biden couldn’t do anything but Trump is dismantling the entire system.

We are SPRINTING backwards as fast as the idiots in charge can rev their bus towards the cliff. Because they have a series of beliefs they WANT to be true, believe anyone with other opinions to be both liars and active combatants, and are willing to kill EVERYONE until they are eventually proven wrong… At which point they will cry like babies and say „Why didn’t anyone stop us? You are all so terrible!“

He didn’t just undo the SAVE plan under Biden. He codified it into law with his One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Mine went from around $50 to almost $600 a month, which I can’t pay. Ive never defaulted on anything in my life, and I have stuff I can’t afford to lose, like a house and a car I’m still paying on. I wish more people understood how devastating their unnecessary changes are.

    5. Another measure in the Republican plan to discourage school. Dumb people vote Republican and they know it.

Republicans will do anything to discourage people from getting an education, and to punish educated people for going to school.

      We are not there yet
      We have not evolved
      We have no respect
      We have lost control
      We’re going backwards
      Ignoring the realities
      Going backwards
Are you counting all the casualties?
      We are not there yet
      Where we need to be
      We are still in debt
      To our insanities
      We’re going backwards
      Turning back our history
      Going backwards
      Piling on the misery

We can track it all with satellites
See it all in plain sight
Watch men die in real time
      But we have nothing inside
      We feel nothing inside

      We are not there yet
      We have lost our soul
      The course has been set
      We’re digging our own hole
      We’re going backwards
      Armed with new technology
      Going backwards
      To a caveman mentality

      We can emulate on consoles
      Killings we can control
With senses that have been dulled
      Because there’s nothing inside
      We feel nothing inside

      >When Faith, a 33-year-old in Burlington, North Carolina, went back to get her master’s degree in higher education administration in 2020-21, she hoped it would accelerate her career growth and maybe even help her get on the housing ladder.

      >Now, Faith has federal student loan debts of $38,113, and a repayment schedule that is much more demanding than she realized so she feels like the program stalled her progress.

      >“I wasn’t aware of the detriment it would have on my future,” she said. “You really don’t know the full scope of what you’re getting into [when taking out student loan debt] … I got my master’s specifically to progress in my career, but what I make now versus what I owe on the degree, it’s almost like it doesn’t make sense.”

      >“Luckily I don’t have any dependents … but all the people in their 30s around me, it feels like we’re all going backwards,” Faith said.

      >She added: “I always regret that decision.”

The article focuses on people with student debt, which is semi-appropriate, but really it is literally all of us in this age bracket. Or rather everyone who is below a certain age. Because instead of society being structured in a way that minimizes the individual consequences of mistakes, it has instead been weaponized to maximize both the frequency and amplitude of mistakes and their consequences.

And only those who are already wealthy and thus separated from the rest of us are able to avoid any responsibility. But it is costing literally all of the rest of us.

In other words, basically if you were born after a certain year – which is not a defined line, but roughly around 1990 – you have zero chance unless you were born incredibly wealthy. And it is fucking bullshit.

      >In Aurora, Colorado, 46-year-old Chris is also remaining in the Save plan. He said he had about $50,000 in outstanding student loan debts – down from $65,000 – that he accrued while studying a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management. He’s keeping his federal student loans in forbearance and paying the interest for as long he can, in order to prioritize paying other debts.

      >“It’s not that I don’t intend to pay my students debts, I understood it was a loan like any other to be repaid,” he said, but the “repayment costs need to be able to fit in a budget that allows for personal and professional growth”.

      >It feels to Chris as if the Trump administration wants to “keep those with [student] debt in it for as long as possible”.

And this is about where that line gets blurry on who had a chance and made decisions and who didn’t. Not that I am saying all 46 year olds are to blame, or even this 46 year old, but there are, again, blurred lines.

Is it really sensible to attend college for a degree in hospitality management, of all things? Is that really something which actually requires credentials associated with accredited „higher education“? (again, not placing blame here, at all, but it is a relevant question worth considering)

Relatedly, look into the amounts paid on student loans historically and the principle amounts of those loans and you might have some insight into the problem(s).

^(for other contextual information, see my other recent comments. assuming this doesn’t get removed by the mods here for some nonsensical power tripping reasons)

Young people actually showed up and voted for this because they were told that Kamala laughs weird.

    9. Homeless-Coward-2143 on

We’re going backwards said the people during the we are going backwards administration.

    10. PrincessImpeachment on

Student loan debt affects primarily younger people. I wonder how many of these students decided to sit out the 2024 election, hmm. Kamala Harris warned everybody many, many times yet some people got hung up on one or two issues. Now look where we are. Broke and in debt.

OMG, a Republican driving the car in Reverse into a ditch while America just expects the next Democrat to get us out of the ditch, put the car back in Drive, only to consider giving the keys to a Republican again? Say it ain’t so!

The alarms were sounded starting over 15 years ago. I would say it goes as far back as the 80s when he „joked“ about wanting power.

      FA in 2016 and 2024.

      FO in 2025.

    13. FrankAdamGabe on

A normal, rational society would think it’s actually a good thing to promote education in your country.

Then again Cons don’t want a good country. They want power and are willing to rule over ashes to get it.

    14. NerdySongwriter on

I feel like I’m just giving up on ever paying them off. I stopped college in 2007 and had been too poor to make monthly payments. My loans have doubled in size since then. There’s no help in sight unless I magically become rich. I might as well just let the balance increase till I die, since I seriously doubt our government will even honor the 25 to 27 year forgiveness rule anymore. Especially since I moved over to the SAVE plan, which apparently no longer exists.

I’m exhausted and simply can’t care anymore.

    15. SEND_ME_CSGO-SKINS on

I didn’t get a Pell grant for the first time this year despite lower income and have to come up with $3000 on my own this year 👎

Just remember who tried to help and who’s out to fuck ya. Vote the bums out!!

    17. Wait until they find out what else was in that OBBB bill. Less forbearance time, harsher payment plans, lower borrowing limits that also vary by program type. There are going to be a lot of students who won’t be covered by federal loans at all, soon, and people will be forced into [even more] predatory private loans to cover the difference.

A lot of the OB3 bill changes don’t go into effect until 2027, but I imagine it’s going to get painful.

    18. It takes 50 votes to expand the courts and he had a trifecta. Like I said if you have the will to do it you can. Especially after republicans took two seats away from democrats.

You randomize the cases among a pool of judges, jurisdiction doesn’t matter. You make all of the appeals court eligible and you get a random selection of 15 of judges for a case.

    19. Penalizing those who get additional education is the absolute dumbest thing we can do as a nation.

It’s the smartest thing rich people can do to keep the money to themselves though, so fuck me here we are.

      They need to see consequences.

    20. It’s as if who you vote for actually matters. Who could have predicted this??? /s

If this shit ass excuse of a government has all the money in the world to fund genocides here and in Gaza, and pay off the Gestapo’s student loan debts I never EVER want to hear one goddamn motherfucking syllable from anyone ever again about how student debt cancellation isn’t possible, or it may be divisive.

    22. Striking-Soil5172 on

I know a lotta “I don’t care about politics” folks who have student loans, so pouring one out for them.

    23. Bulky_Sun2373 on

lol, your debt repayments and interest are now tied to the mood and vindictiveness of a petulant and insecure child who wants to undo everything everyone else is done out of spite.

What a time to be alive.

77 million Americans voted for this, the cruelty, the corruption, the hypocrisy, the bigotry, the misogyny.
