I was on Aomori recently and reallt noticed the plastic rubbish on the coastline. I was wondering if it was due to the tsunami. It seems it’s actually from all of Asia. It’s very noticeable, it’s every where.

I’ve been involved in a few beach cleanups in Kyushu and it’s really sad how much plastic ends up on the shores here. Most recently, I was in southern Kyushu on the Pacific side and managed to trek out to a surfing beach known for sea turtles. We were the only people there. You had to pass through a line of plastic trash, both fishing industry and consumer-related, before making it to the most recent high tide mark.
