I cant tell you about those 5 five buildings specifically but yes most houses in the historic city center have flats over the shops.

    2. Some of them are…some of them are not. Some are used as office spaces for the shops. Or offices in general. Others are owned by someone who does not care…multiple reasons why you won’t see lights.

Depends, usually this is normal rental Flats… allthou the are quite expensive.

Also we have a Big Problem with „Leerstand“ so they can be vacant and only have speculative Value for the owner.

In Salzburg we have around 10.000 vacant Flats, still we have kind of a Housing Crisis. So the Flats are here they are just in the Hands of Assholes that use them as AirBNB Flats for the Festspiele once a Year.

    4. They are ppl living in the oldtown, but not in every apartment. But sadly alot of these apt. are used as second home/airbnbs while the Festspiele are going, meanwhile Salzburg has one of the highest prices for rent and way to less available apartments. So yeah, alot going wrong here

There is also a jokingly reference the locals say, „When the Festspiele begins, all the apartments in the oldtown have mysteriously lighting going on while they are dark the rest of the year“

Some people live there. The historic old town is home to a small resident population of about 4250. Above ground level, much of the space is used for offices. However, high property prices and rents have left many of these spaces vacant, which is an ongoing a challenge for local politics.

Well, some of them are almost unused most of the time, but certainly not vacant:

The city of Salzburg is a peculiar place, in particular because of the „Salzburger Festspiele“.

There are some people from all over the world who have an additional residence in Salzburg just for their visits of said Festivals; rich and super-rich people, of course.

At such central location you’ll often find lawyer’s and (specialist) doctor’s offices occupying the apartments. Which is why there are not that many lights on during evening and night time

    8. You could take a look at the doorbells, sometimes it’s businesses, sometimes apartments. But they are not just facades, like at a theme park, it is in use.
