Don’t blame him. Why bother getting involved in politics anymore, people dredge up the first time you had a can in a field 40 years ago.

He approached FF
FF told him they’d rather run Hanafin than open up old Covid wounds
He dropped out.
*this is my speculation*

This guy’s ego is off the charts; he puts the skeletons in his closet and thinks he can blame others for his own shocking decisons.which have made him toxic for to be come president.

With the value of hindsight we know all the stuff we got wrong about Covid (both areas we were too lax and too strict) but I feel like Tony Holohan was going along with things the same as we all were at the time.
If someone like Michael J. Ryan ran, he’d have bigger questions to answer given his senior role in the WHO.

Ah yeah I’m sure that’s the reason. Not that you hadn’t a notion of getting nominations never mind electability

Media have a lot to answer for here. They try to tear everyone down and their families, for click bait headlines.
As someone here put it eloquently- “you’d have to have a humiliation kink to put yourself through it”.

Very wise decision and while I suppose his family might well have been abused by anti-vaccine nutters I think that’s only partly why it’s a wise decision to not run.
Even if I broadly agree with or see sense in many of his actions during C19, he and others deliberately lied about the science. That’s not on, it has reduced trust in science at a time when there was already a mob of nuts and disingenuous con artists attacking science, vaccines etc. It was also completely unnecessary as the facts would absolutely have been enough to convince people of behaving the way they needed to in the initial phases where there was a dearth of masks and it was just to save money for businesses over health of employees in the latter stages when they covered up the airborne nature of covid.

The only disappointment about it this decision is we probably lose our last chance to hold this man to account for what he did to this country during Covid. He will never appear in front of any credible inquiry to test his approach against the evidence as it stands now benchmarking our zealous lockdown approach versus other nations. Housing ,health , kids , society etc all paid a high price for allowing this arrogant man almost complete control over a nation and a presidential campaign would probaly have been the best most exposing inquiry we could ever have….

I had nothing against TH until the FFFG machine bent over backwards to create cushy, taxpayer funded gig out of thin air after he left his CMO position. The sense of entitlement and the complete disregard for the taxpayer was not a good look. Good riddance, mate.

Sad state of affairs that online misinformation wields this kind of power.
The time of the anonymous internet needs to end.
