SS: In a conversation with Fox News, Trump was asked if there was an economic side to Putin coming to the table for talks, to which the US President mentioned India, saying Russia lost an oil client – India.
„Well, they lost an oil client so to speak, which is India, which was doing about 40% of the oil, China as you know is doing a lot…and If I did secondary sanctions, it would be devastating from their standpoint.. If I have to do it, I’ll do it, may be I won’t have to do it,“ Trump said during the interview to Fox News from the Air Force One he boarded from Washington.
Did not India make it clear that it will protect the national interest and keep buying Russian oil for its 1.4 billion people?
If what Trump says is true, then there should be no tariff on India, right? Because he did imposed tariff on this reason.
Trump claims this but India has actually increased the amount of oil imported, so Trump is factually incorrect.

India’s purchase of Russian oil has risen to 2 million barrels per day (bpd) in August, as refiners continue to prioritise economic considerations in their sourcing decisions.
Imports from Russia at 2 million bpd were up from 1.6 million bpd in July. The increase in Russian flow was at the cost of purchases from Iraq, which declined to 730,000 bpd in August, and Saudi Arabia which fell to 526,000 bpd from 700,000 bpd last month.
The U.S. was the fifth largest supplier at 264,000 bpd, according to Kpler.
About talk of refiners being asked to increase purchases from the U.S. in a bid to placate Trump, IOC Chairman said, „Neither are we being told to buy more nor are we told to buy less from U.S. or any other destination. Economic considerations dictate our actions.“
