It’s interesting that it is the right wing in France who is advocating to show it. The left has no ability to fight against these people

      >The mayor claimed that around 10 to 15 people “surrounded the offices” and threatened to “take everything down and put an end to your session” over differences between their religious views, and the supposed views of the film.

      >Sarrabeyrouse continued: “They said that it advocates homosexuality and that it is an attack on the integrity of women.

      >The decision to cancel the event garnered backlash from critics, including MP Valérie Boyer and Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, the latter of whom said, “the slightest retreat in the face of these community demands is unacceptable”.

      >Boyer, however, claimed that the situation saw “Islamic religious fundamentalists exercising strong and effective social control”.

      >“Algeria, Lebanon, Kuwait, and today Noisy-le-Sec in [France] censor #Barbie… the [mayor] submits to pressures from an ‘aggressive group’!,” she alleged via X on Wednesday (13 August).

    2. We need to stop pandering to vocal minorities. A democratic society goes with the majority, not the few that whinge, don`t watch if it upsets you lol.

    3. Darkdragoon324 on

Who was forcing them to watch it? Just ignore it and mind your business!

I don’t think all Muslims are like this, or even most who immigrate to other countries, but I don’t understand why certain types want to turn their new countries into the same oppressive shithole they claim they fled from.

    4. Regardless of the movie… if you don’t like it, you can just not go see it, right?

There are plenty of movies I hate that I don’t see.

I want to live my life the way I see fit. But I also want YOU to live your life how you see fit! And we should smile and high five each other on our way to each do wildly different things, appreciating that we both CAN do that, and that we’re both happy.

I haven’t watched the film, but is one of the Barbies a lesbian or is it because Ryan Gosling invokes some latent feelings in them?

    6. Imkindofslow on

That movie came out 2 years ago what screening could we possibly be talking about at this point that isn’t just rage bait?

Edit: ah the article is just rage bait. „Communist mayor“, open air screening in a suburb, this might as well be an argument at an hoa

    7. Fun fact: Barbie is banned in Lebanon because of it’s „homosexual message“. But recently Lebanon banned all movies with Gal Gadot and a bunch of gay people on TikTok were talking about how Lebanon was the best.

Same thing happened with the Maldives – they recently banned all Israelis from visiting and I saw a ton of gay people on TikTok saying they couldn’t wait to vacation in the Maldives.

In the Maldives only Muslims can be citizens and the punishment for homosexuality is eight years in prison and 100 lashes with a whip.

It’s a bold strategy let’s see how it works out for them

First – this is coming from the Telegraph so let’s focus on its bias.

Second, this really did happen after 15 dudes made it a thing. No one was happy about it and they are going to screen it again. Everyone was generally in agreement you cannot censor things because you dont like it because of your religion.

Its not that the left in France is in favor of this. Rather, they are accusing the right in France of using this situation as a means to create larger issues towards Islamaphobia in France. As a means to harden immigration or expel several people.

Look, extremist Muslims gonna extremist. I find it hilarious that OP is using this story to bash Muslims when you can look at the post history and he is clearly wat past being anti-muslim and is anti-arab as well.

TL;DR OP posted his right wing rag to promote broad hate against Muslims and Arabs.

Or they could not watch it. No one is forcing them to watch it, but they seem to be forcing their religion on everyone

    10. ScientistFit6451 on

Oh no. The thing that everyone told you would happen, happened.

      Anyway…

    11. PatchyWhiskers on

There is no homosexuality in the movie. What a bunch of wimps. Don’t like, don’t watch.

    12. Yet France put out whatever the f that Olympic opening monstrosity was openly blaspheming last supper with the overweight liquor snurf

    13. Ponchorello7 on

Is the French right pro LGBT, or are they just piping up because of an „enemy of my enemy“ type situation.

    14. faraamstuckathome on

What’s crazy is that in any other instances, the right wing would have been in favor of this.

    15. KickingButt on

I keep seeing stories like this about France. You are encouraging censorship, France. I know the French value liberty. Act like it. Don’t give up what your forefathers gave blood for.

    16. Hear me out, in my opinion far right hypocrites condemn this because it fits their anti immigrant agenda. It’s all smoke and mirrors since they also condemn “woke” culture and lgbtq+ lifestyle in many cases. Just populist bs . I’m gay myself and I am really concerned some muslims , and Islam itself don’t see homosexuality as part of a peaceful life, of course it is an issue for me. But regarding what’s right and wrong for lgbt people, i can not and never will trust right wing politics

    17. Augustus_Chevismo on

      >“France’s Right-Wing condemns cancellation as ‘submitting to Islamist ideology”

In other words the left wing remains silent in the face of violent homophobia.

    18. OptimisticRealist__ on

Theres been several cancellations of cultural events bc of islamic threats like this in Europe in recent yrs. I for one think its remarkable how intent Europe is on bowing the knee to these people who spit on European values

    19. Having seen the movie, I guess some of the male Muslims found Ryan Gosling a little *too* attractive

    20. WeightConscious4499 on

Ah no one could’ve seen this coming for sure.

The fucking around era is over. We’re in the finding out era now

    21. Theradbanana on

If you don’t like or agree with the movie, just don’t watch it. Why do you care about what I do?

    22. Very sad that we need the right wing to do this. Why can’t the left condemn it if it stands against their values? This stupid reason is behind most of the popularity of right wing in Europe.

    23. ThroughtonsHeirYT on

      Well ban muslims Homophobia

Why does this religious group can freely be homophobic? Anyone else goes to woke jail for saying bad things against non-heteros.

    24. tldr: Ryan Gosling is too hot, makes Muslim men feel gay, they threatened to blow up Barbie to fend off the gay feelings, Islam remains 100% straight

    25. You wanna know what’s significantly stranger than homosexuals (people that have existed since people have existed)? Organized religion. The 10,000 plus religions around the world that all claim to know the truth with ZERO evidence. You all are weird. Just because MORE of you are stupid enough to believe the clear nonsense that is organized religion, doesn’t make you even more correct. Your imaginary friends should not get to infringe on everyone else.

    26. It’s because Ryan Gosling awaked something in them that they’re not ready to deal with yet.

    27. Madame_Moonsugar on

Ironic, considering the right wing is looking to overturn gay marriage here in America. Real champions for homosexuality, those conservatives lol

    28. BlerghTheBlergh on

What’s amazing to me is how much the conservative right and conservative Muslim populations have in common. And yet we’re lucky they hate each other, imagine the destruction they could wreak on society if they joined forces

    29. DrainTheMuck on

Interesting, I’ve seen this story posted about a dozen times so far today, but this is the first one that named the group that was obviously the agitators only hinted at in the other posts.

    30. blac_sheep90 on

There’s not outright gay character in the movie. One barbie is played by a transwoman but isn’t presented as such.

This is bust ignorant and hateful religious bigots.
