The greatest con artist in the United States is so arrogant he doesn’t realize he is being conned by someone far more cunning.

Putin is a snake and Trump is fool enough to trust him.

      Small print:

‘An attack on Ukraine will be considered an attack on the USA – but the USA believes it would not be worth defending Ukraine even if it was US territory.’

    3. Professional_Class_4 on

„Article 5“ means the US needs to aid Ukraine in case of an attack. How this aid will actually looks like will be up to the US. How it will likely look like under Trump you can see right now. The US has given Ukraine security guarantees after giving up their nukes.

    4. If this ends with US troops coming home in body bags it will also be Zelenskyy’s fault, chumps followers will agree too.

      Some president eh?

The US can’t/don’t want to help Ukraine now, why should anyone believe they will change their position when Russia attacks next time?

The only realistic guarantee for Ukraine at this point is their own nukes, which is what should be the main focus for Ukraine and the entire Eastern flank of NATO (except for Hungary and Slovakia).

It’s a bit bizarre seeing how close those two stand next to each other, Putin is known for not letting people be near him as he has trust issues. Really tells you a lot in how much Putin trusts Trump and that’s NOT a good thing.

    7. I’m not sure if Trump is really that stupid or if he’s still just Putin’s little bitch

    8. Intrepid_Fig_3071 on

Everey security guarantee given to Ukraine by either the US or Russia isn’t worth the paper it is written on. Look up the Budypest Memorandum. The only thing that would give them a security guarantee is a NATO-membership.

Ok I have to say I don’t understand the comment section here. Unless it’s just a bunch of bots that have a list of canned phrases any time these key words are in the title.

This seems like a major step for the US in favor of Ukraine – now maybe you say “I don’t believe a word of it” which is certainly fair. Or even “we’ll wait to see what the agreement actually says.” But the comments here suggest that even taking the headline as true is somehow bad for both the US and Ukraine. If it is, then what security agreements would be good?

If anything, this seems like it puts a ton of onus on the US, as with nato protections the rest of Western Europe aid would be automatic. With this they have the choice to sit out.

“Trump agrees with Putin” … SERIOUSLY … it’s almost like this meeting was just meant to distract from Donald Trump raping little girls in the Epstein Files. C’mon people WTFU!

    11. PM_ME_UR_QUINES on

Europe should propose joining in on the agreement, i.e. that an attack on Ukraine is to be considered an attack on USA *and* Europe. Then watch how fast Putin pulls out of the deal.

Release the Epstein files. Then the kiddie diddler can go be with his long time boyfriend,Putin and get the hell outta here.

I don’t believe Putin would actually accept this. Would definitely be a big concession from him if it is true.

    14. Only if we ’swap territory.‘ We are expected to give away fortified Donbass without a fight in exchange for guarantees from Trump.

      This doesn’t make sense.

Article 5 is specifically „*The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognized by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.“*

So how can you have Article 5 without NATO coming to your defence? Article 5 *is in of itself* the fact that NATO members come to your defence if attacked.

Unless it’s a Taiwan type situation, but it remains to be seen how that would hold up in practice.

Or is it, perhaps most worryingly, *exactly what we have now* where we support Ukraine if attacked without getting directly involved, and we can see how that isn’t working.

I agree with Lithuania. Nato needs to put troops on the ground in Ukraine.

    17. Substantial_Pilot699 on

Ukraine should just offer itself to become the 52nd state of America.

So is the deal Trump negotiated Russia gets exactly what they want and Ukraine has to deal?

    19. Copy-pasta:

„US President Donald Trump and European allies have discussed security guarantees for Ukraine „in the style of Article 5“ of the North Atlantic Treaty, but with no NATO involvement.

Source: CNN with reference to its sources, also confirmed by an Ukrainska Pravda source

Details: An unnamed European official told CNN that during their conversation after Trump’s talks with the Kremlin chief in Alaska, European officials and the US president had discussed the possible provision of „Article 5-style“ security guarantees for Ukraine as part of a potential peace agreement.

However, the source noted that NATO would not be involved in these potential guarantees. The exact details of the proposal are unknown.

An Ukrainska Pravda source familiar with the talks has confirmed that the discussion took place and clarified that the wording used during the phone call was „non-NATO Article 5 security guarantees“.

The idea was put forward by the US as one of the security guarantees for Ukraine that were supposedly agreed with Putin in Alaska.“

    20. Watching the summary of Putin’s Alaska visit made me worried that Putin owns Trump and through him, Putin owns the US. He certainly acted like it.

I think Trump has established his promises mean shit at this point. Ukrainians aren’t stupid. This is giving away a third of their country for a ‚Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown‘ scenario.

    22. How about the old guarantees ? New one can only work if US troops stationed and Ukraine gets their nukes back from Russia

    23. Basement_Chicken on

At this point, after Budapest Memorandum breach with no consequences, it would be stupid for Ukraine to trust the US, let alone Russia, no matter what Article number they pick and put on paper.

    24. If it is not obvious based on Trump’s body language that Putin has some kind of hold over Trump.

    25. Even at taking this at face value, he’ll just fund another breakaway DPR/LPR group and use groups like Wagner to avoid direct confrontation.

    26. Yeah, so Russia will agree to Ukraine’s security after Trump tries to give all the land to Putin

    27. PepperMill_NA on

So Russia providing the security guarantees?
