Es brachte mich zum Nachdenken; Was ist der schlechteste Kreuzung / Kreisverkehr, auf den Sie in Irland begegnet sind? Ich sage den Kinsale Road -Kreisverkehr in Cork (zweites Bild)

Can’t really argue that Kinsale roundabout isn’t the most bat sh*t crazy one in Ireland
Dunkettle is the worst!! There is 3 lanes merging into one at one point.

Coming from the east heading westbound is ridiculous 3.lames merge into one.
Have never had any issues there but can imagine it’s hectic at rush hour!
If you’re used to it it’s just barely ok, if not it’s a f++king nightmare
Walkinstown roundabout. It’s compact, but also bonkers and terrifying in equal measure.
Junction 9 off the m50 to the n7
The outer lane “ fastlane “ merges after a hill without warning. Almost got cut off the first time I used it someone would not let me merge
As everyday driver on N7, M50 and M1:
the Red Cow merge N7 into M50 is chaos. You’ve got people flying in from the left trying to squeeze into that one lane for the M50, and the second you’re on it, there’s more traffic merging in while others are already diving left to get off at the next exit. Total mess.
M50 to M1 And don’t even get me started on the M50 to M1. You’ve got cars trying to get onto the M1 while others are cutting left for the airport exit at the same time. Peak hours? Absolute nightmare.
Its not the worst necessarily, but Islandbridge; N4 onto the Sth Circular, is a cock up. With a bit of shifting it could be a straight forward roundabout. Its frustrating because I don’t know how you fix say Dunkettle or the Red Cow, but I feel like there could be done better.
For me it’s the place heading from the airport onto M50 southbound where you’re supposed to get onto the right to lanes to merge into M50, and then on M50 you end up in the right lane instead of left
Bohermore roundabout in Galway. Really small roundabout, with too many exits. One of the last main roundabouts left in Galway, and probably the one that needed to be turned into a junction more than the other ones they did.
I got the Aircoach back down a while back from Dublin and thought the set up was a mess. To come from northbound to go west into the city you have to go east towards Little Island, take a slip road up, go over and across the east-west road, and then take a slip road back onto the westbound road. A mess.
The N4/ M50 junction is an ordeal whenever I drive through it. Yes, it’s ‚free flow‘ so no lights or roundabouts, but there’s always a lot to deal with.
Eastbound:
– Junction 2 from Liffey Valley spits traffic onto a 3 lane road just 500m from the physical point of no return for southbound M50 traffic. Meaning traffic getting on here and wanting to go to M50 southbound has a **very** short distance to do so, darting across multiple lanes
– At this exact point, the limit drops from 80 to 60 and sometimes has a speed camera parked around the corner. So mix in traffic potentially slamming on brakes in the same 500m section I mentioned above
– Halfway across the bridge over the M50 city bound, you now suddenly have traffic merging from the right
– Bus lane ends at the diverging lane for northbound M50 traffic, causing a conflict point both for buses continuing into the city and other traffic getting onto the M50
Westbound
– Again, traffic merging from the right off the M50 although this time it becomes the outer lane
– Leftmost lane turns suddenly into a bus lane for 200m, then back into a running lane when the bus lane reappears two lanes over. Buses dart across the lane coming from M50 northbound to get into the new bus lane.
– Essentially, the above combine to mean the lanes change wildly as it traverses this junction:
– 2 lane plus bus lane (last lights up to the start of the junction)
– 2 lane without bus lane (about 400m)
– 3 lane without bus lane (about 400m)
– 2 lane plus bus lane (about 200m)
– 2 lane plus merging lane criss-crossing the bus lane (about 150m)
– finally, 3 lane plus bus lane until the M4 starts
Cherry on the top is the terrible driving there seems to always be on that section of road.
I flew back to ireland shortly after this was finished. Flew from Europe to Shannon, which took 1 1/2 hours, then took a cab from Shannon to cork, another 1 1/2 hours. Then arrived at this roundabout and wanted to head eastbound. First attempt we ended up heading for Dublin. Finally got off the motorway and came at the roundabout from a different angle for round 2. This time we ended up heading for the city. Finally on the third attempt we made it through. All in all the roundabout took 1 1/2 hours with the traffic
The worst junction has nothing to do with cars. The M1/M50 junction has zero pedestrian crossings near it. East/West crossing over M1 is badly needed. It’s almost 6km between crossings on foot. To put into perspective I could walk from Stillorgan to Stephens green in the same time.
