Press „X“ to doubt.
Why even go to the movies at this point? Big screen TVs are relatively affordable now and you don’t have to deal with the commute, expensive concessions, lack of subtitles (ugh – some movies are barely audible with modern directors), inability to pause, and rude people with bright smartphones.
I used to love theaters, but now I’m liking watching stuff at home much more. If I don’t have to wait half a year to see the film, it’s not like I’m missing anything. I can buy it for half cost and watch it again and again, or I can rent it for a ridiculously cheaper price than movie tickets.
I don’t understand why the studios are ruining their biggest revenue source. They make the most money from the box office. Yet they want to get that extra PVOD / streaming revenue, so they release it quickly so it’s still in the same marketing push. All you’re doing is training us not to go to the theaters and to pay less for the movies they spent a lot of money to make and market.
That would be a terrible business decision.
“Of course we’re releasing digitally. It needs to be up before our under watched show hits streaming!”
I don’t understand how James Gunn didn’t know the release date for peacemaker season 2. I get why he had released to VOD but still being off a month for the release date seems very odd to me.
It’s studios caring more about streamers than the movie theatres. Ruining movies because now everything is written so you can scroll on your phone during it.
This seems like wildly poor planning that could really cut into Superman’s final weeks in theaters.
Don’t get all the negative nancies in the comment section. I know people wanted this movie in the theatre for longer, but both with the current state of theaters and considering it’s been over a month, going to theatre isn’t going to be as fun as you think.
And, I agree this isn’t so ideal, nor am I 100% certain it’d work out as Gunn is doing. But why is everyone immediately talking like this is a a flaw and not a feature? Gunn already stated Peacemaker season 2 is key to the wider lore of the new DCU, so maybe this decision is because he’s trying the same problems as the old MCU or the DCEU had, at least on the long run.
Dunno about you guys, but I’d very much like to avoid a repeat of flops like the one with Thunderbolt or Birds of Prey.
Why does anyone care if this comes to VOD early or not? Legitimate question.
I personally love when movies are VOD early because theaters and public spaces are a no-no for me, as in „no, no I do not want to go sit in a petri dish to watch a movie.“
Kinda dumb since it’s still making money, but ok
