Article saying: This fear isn’t really about safety, it’s about giving Republicans an excuse to shove control, deploy cops and the National Guard, and flex violence in liberal areas they hate (full of diversity, immigrants, and left-leaning people). It’s basically a pattern: act scared → justify heavy-handed power → punish groups they don’t like. TL;DR: Republicans scream “crime!” in safe cities so they can harass liberal populations.

They should be worried about existing crime like a certain someone with 34 convictions.

Lack of education. Lack of balanced news media. Lack of world perspective. Lack of empathy.

That’d be my top four reasons.

    4. They were never actually worried about crime. They’re terrified of nonexistent crime because it can reveal their lies and break their holds on their zealot hordes.

    5. They have been setting this up forever. Every Fox News viewer thinks all major cities are post-apocalyptic war zones.

“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”

Because the guy on the radio told them that “they” are after them, which feeds their delusion of being a “super special and important person” ( when in reality, they’re just a basiic, boring douche that nobody gives two shits about)

    8. Conservatives are motivated by fear, liberals by benevolence. They’re supposed to balance each other out, work together, not hate each other. This is an imaginary gif of the best eye roll ever. /s.

Theyre afraid we notice they have a proclivity for Pedophiles? Like they guard them? Like. Guardians of Pedophiles? Like how Ghislaine Maxwell, who trafficked children with Trump and Epstein got out on work release?

Can we see those files now?

I’d say most aren’t terrified, they are liars and this is a convenient lie. As was the war on drugs, the no go cities, the cities “burning to the ground”, the immigrant gangs taking over cities and eating pets. The thing about these lies is it doesn’t really matter if any sensible person believes them because they make good smoke screens and require fact checking to dispute and at least half the population never gets to the fact checking stage

There is nothing contradictory happening here. We keep getting this wrong. And that’s why we’re losing.

MAGA cares only about one thing: violent and vengeful enforcement of the American Caste System. This is why they cheer for all attacks on Black people, brown people, LGBTQ people, and women who don’t take submissive roles.

This is the Rosetta Stone of MAGA for those of us who are confused.

This is why *nothing* Trump says or does bothers them as long as they get to savor their daily doses of state-sponsored sadism.

This is what the „Take OUR country back“ slogan means.

They rail about „Law and Order.“ They obviously don’t care about the law. But this enforced hierarchy is what they mean by order. They want a strong white man to make nonwhite people live in fear and submission. There is nothing new about any of this.

MAGA understands that this isn’t about actual crime. It’s about dehumanizing nonwhite people as „criminal races“ and publicly performing violent dominance over them.

This is what they cheer for. This is why they love Trump.

Because Republicanism is based on blaming someone else for their problems. Todays scapegoat is *spins wheel* „criminals“! Congratulations! You win harassment for something that isn’t actually happening so mediocre people can feel better about themselves!

    13. Reactionaries need something to react TO… and in the absence of that something, they will invent it.

    14. Suddenly they care so much about law and order even tho their cult leader is a convicted felon and pedophile.

    15. The 90% or better truthful news has been labeled “Fake News”. Visit the most conservative sites, Newsmax, NewsNation and OAN to see all of the fear mongering and outright Rage-Baiting. This is why they are the way they are.

    16. The narrative they see on TV programs is that crime is everywhere, and they never leave to see if it actually is real or not. They believe that cities are crime-ridden while their small town is not (even though they have extremely corrupt sheriffs).

Thats not to say that cities are completely safe, I dont recommend going there alone as someone who doesnt live in one, but cities are not nearly as crime ridden as possible.

The fact is that crime in DC has declined precipitously since its peak on 01/06/21.

    18. For thousands of years, such fearmongering has always been how charlatans and scammers control the ignorant, gullible, and cowardly — aka „conservatives“.

    19. Brown people.

‚crime‘ is a dogwhistle for brown people.

      They’re afraid of brown people.

And in DC, and all of the other cities on the list for martial law, brown people are very much existant.

    20. Trump sent the military to round up homeless in DC so we won’t notice that he let a convicted child sex trafficker out of prison. He also let El Chapos cartel family come into the US.

Because they have an enlarged amygdala which processes emotions most notably fear and anxiety.

Scare tactics , politicians use the 90’s crack drug crime optics to scare people into thinking UZI waving minorities are going to get them . This way cops can dress up like soldiers and the suburbs will vote republican.

With the exception of some folks who visited DC a couple of years ago (Jan 6th) – his base doesn’t go to large metropolitan areas. I live in the Midwest and vacation in large cities on the regular (Toronto, Detroit, Philadelphia, Chicago). I tell some people I work with where I’m going on vacation and they act like I’m going into active war zones.

they’re terrified of whatever they’re told to be terrified of… it’s really pretty simple

    25. I had to go to a tiny town a few years back. The financial manager was a nice gal but clearly a Trump supporter. I did not mention my being queer. Just smiled and did my job.

While telling me about her last vacation to Vegas to see her son, she mentioned how upset she and her husband were that they could not carry their firearms on the plane to Vegas.

It was so bad her son had to loan her husband one as soon as they got there “to be safe” on the strip.

I tried to gently ask what they had been so scared of. All I got was that the criminals were there as if she had gone to Mad Max’s Thunderdome.

It was a weird experience to watch someone justify themselves. If you didn’t know that, she was a very good financial manager who kept impeccable books for the town so you’d think she was normal.

I got the distinct impression me and mine world be considered criminals if she saw us on the Vegas strip enjoying ourselves.

Cause they’re pussies. So many tough talking republicans are scared of everything.
