Xi is really teaching the Chinese people to hate Japan with this new wave of state-led films and historical reframing. Japan needs to rethink how it might keep welcoming so many tourists and migrants from a country that so obviously hate it.

Yes, this is an issue that should be treated with caution because Japan has not apologized for what it did in the past.

Japan has yet to fulfill its post-war duty of purging its far-right elements. To this day, they continue to deny wartime atrocities and glorify Class-A war criminals by enshrining them at Yasukuni Shrine. China must remember this history, especially given Japan’s complete lack of remorse.

Another 10 – 20 years and people won’t care.

Idk, after 12 years of living in Japan, it’s just kind of rich continuously hearing how Japan, which engaged in bilateral treaties (including reparations) with every country they colonized, renounced the use of military force, and has not been involved in any armed conflicts in the last 80 years needs to apologize from citizens of, and governments of, countries that are continuously engaged in ongoing colonial expansion. Is Japan perfect, no. But it’s clear that opportunistic politicians use the tragic past to their advantage when they need to stir patriotic fervor at home and that’s just as disgusting.
