I initially read that as jetpack. Still, quite the achievement despite my own personal disappointment.

Does anyone else find it annoying that because children are involved it is deemed acceptable to print misleading lies and nonsense presumably under the pretence that it is ‚inspirational‘ and we can’t hurt their little feelings?

To me this is how you end up with adults that can’t handle anything when they grow up and things don’t work out.

The way she describes it working is how those hand warmers work. I thought the text of how it works didn’t really sound like it was written in the voice of a 12 year old – even a smarty pants 12 year old – and the use of a Z in ‚crystallization‘ made me a little suspicious. She threw on some solar panels feeding a battery pack. But it doesn’t explain why. One obvious answer would be to reset the solution. But good luck doing that with the power those solar panels would yield – and you need to get them to temperatures that you wouldn’t want in close to your skin.

Which is going to be why the real prototype made didn’t actually go down that route and instead is an inspired take on standard solar blankets that you can find online very easily for very cheap.

So she directly copied text, the idea isn’t feasible and what got made wasn’t that idea anyway, and already exists, yet this gets you on the front cover of Time Magazine?
