Another reason to do as little business possible with American companies.

Ummm, sounds like this is a win for Novo Nordisk.

It really shouldn’t surprise me, but it does always blow my mind how these supposed capitalist Republicans don’t understand even the most fundamental concepts of economics.

That’s okay, there’s still Novo Nordisk. They make GLP1 inhibitors as wellsies. And they aren’t under Trunk’s thumb. So imagine if Eli Lilly loses all their Canada sales because of Trunk.

UK too, prices are going up massively for the higher end strengths. From something like £170 to £330+

Grey market peptides going to be drowning the market before long

The Canadian patent for another GLP-1 drug (semaglutide) expires in January 2026. There are at least four companies expected to release generic versions.

    6. Im confused Didnt the licensing for this here in Canada go generic because Lilly „forgot“ to pay the patent fee like 2 months ago and gov even gave them opportunity to pay it late and they still didnt 😂 this seems like a non story as bunch of generics are in the works without Lilly since they technically don’t own recipe for it anymore here LOL

    7. Trump: Eli Lilly, you need to price gouge other countries like you price gouge the USA.

      Eli Lilly: With pleasure!

    8. So, that’s his idea of a 1500% reduction in drug costs?

He is continually proving that, when one of his brain cells fails, the other one refused to work alone.

    9. If they can raise their prices in Canada, the UK, and elsewhere so easily why didn’t they do it before now?

Increase their taxes in Canada by the exact same amount and give the income back to the provinces health care.

    11. canada : Behold ! the th Eli-lilly generic brand ! just fresh off the ..acicidental ..patent expiry!

Since the US is waging a trade war against everyone at the same time, why hasn’t the rest of the world (except, like, Russia and North Korea) convened come kind of free trade conference to decide how to deal with it? Why is each country just passively waiting its turn to get beat down in a one-on-one negotiation with the US?

If Trump were smarter, he’d pick a few „favourite“ countries that he’d treat well (besides just Israel), so they’d side with the US in its disputes with other countries that were on his „naughty“ list. Canada even tried this when the tariff threats first started. I remember Doug Ford (premier of Ontario) saying „we’re on team America! Let’s build an Am-Can fortress! Mexico is the problem! Let’s work together to force them to clean up their act!“ Trump basically responded with „No, I hate Canada too.“

I think a lot of leaders are thinking like Doug Ford was. „We can convince Trump to let us be on America’s side against the rest of the world.“ It’s not going to work. There’s no country that’s safe from this.

… and then Trump will throw a tantrum when drug prices in the US are still ridiculous because other countries negotiating reasonable prices is not the reason US prices are so high… they don’t charge more because they HAVE to… they do it because they are ALLOWED to…

Sounds like Beinaglutide Injection (Feisumei) should be submitted for approval in Canada.

    15. Provinces have negotiated prices with the company directly. Jacking up the price is a wild idea and could expose them to a lawsuit with prices potentially forcing it to be removed from the formulary and essentially drying up the market. Terrible idea by Eli

    16. Doesn’t matter. Jan 1 2 generics will drop the price 50% and once a third comes to market they drop to 33% of the patented price.
