The amount of early votes this time around is shocking to me. The totals here are 100 votes **more than the General Election totals**. This is extremely atypical for by-elections which tend to trend to lower turnout than a General Election — especially since Battle River-Crowfoot had nearly 77% voter turnout in the General Election.
The part that confuses me the most about this is typically the Advanced Vote swings more left than the E-Day vote but with LPC being a non-player in this riding, I can’t imagine how those 14,000+ votes would breakdown.
These are very high numbers for a byelection in a rural riding. For reference, the 2024 byelection in Toronto St.Paul’s advanced poll votes were only 10k
Not surprising. The leader of the party that lost his long time seat is running. You can’t get more attention than that.
Last census had 108,000 people living in this federal electoral district.
Let’s say it’s 120,000 now. That means 12% of people cast an early ballot. Remarkable.
