It’s such a stupid claim, that exporters will not pass on the costs to consumers.

    2. I hope this will escalate. GS is one of the few that could really damage Trump.

    3. Consumers always pay tariffs. That’s how tariffs work. Think corporations aren’t going to pass along the cost of tariffs to consumers? Think again!

It’s not a „call“ or an opinion or a stance. It’s just high school level economics.

    5. Thanks to the wealthy integrating our retirement funding into the stock market instead of pensions, if companies “absorb” the tariffs, their profitability will drop, and our 401ks will suffer. Or, they won’t absorb them and we’ll pay more.

Three years ago I bought a bunch of specialized tools off AliExpress because I needed at least three for a project, and it was easy to buy a knockoff that would do the job. I had to buy twenty of them. It cost around $200 total, but I would have had to buy 3 for around $100 each in the States.

I sold a bunch of them online through eBay and a few at cost to a local mom & pop hardware store. I made back enough to cover my costs.

If I needed the same tools again, I’d have to spend $400 to get them in the US. I’d have to spend around $250 for 20 to get them from AliExpress again. Then I have to pay around $59 for the tarriffs.

I sold the original set for around $30 each. I had about ten in inventory for about a year, which was just a box in my garage taking up space. They all sold eventually.

If I had to do the project again, I’d bump the price to cover the cost of the tariffs. And I’d probably sell less and have to store them longer, which, if I had to count that as a business cost, I’d include in the price of the item as well. So I might list them at $50.

Ultimately, I’m not the one who paid the extra cost of the tariffs. It’s the people who bought the items from me.

      The end consumer pays.

Trump is just so fucking dumb he doesn’t understand basic economics, because he’s never had to. His businesses were all real estate and business ventures that failed, but he was propped up by the fact that money launderers could buy his properties cash on the barrelhead.

Trump has been in the money laundering business for four decades. He has no idea how legitimate business works, and it’s obvious.

It is so absurd that enough people are stupid enough to dismiss basic economic principals and common sense to pretend tariffs are not just going to amount to a consumer tax.

    8. Better don’t before the mid terms. He can get the honor as the only trice impeached president

This administration loves the ignorance and fealty of their base. When the tariffs are in full effect — and they begin to feel the increase — they will believe the egregious lie that this is the result of the Biden administration.

The fact of the matter is that Trump is veering far into interventionism. Private business interests dictated by the whims of the state.

      Some call it state capitalism.

Trump knows consumers will bear the cost. He just thinks consumers are too stupid to notice that prices have all risen.

    12. I mean, Is it really hard to „stand by“ a simple fact? Consumers pay tariffs. Simple fact.

    13. My sales rep told me their merchandise is going to increase by 60% sighting the tariffs of course. Anyone who thought the countries or importers were just going to eat this cost are grade A morons.

    14. „Bear the brunt“ is a weird way of saying „absolutely 100% of all of it“

    15. Looks like you’re about to be inbestigated by the DOJ, Goldman. Maybe you should have donated more money to the dems and less to the child rapists

    16. How is this controversial? Tariffs are paid by the importer and passed on to the consumer, no shit

    17. True. Its hard to get self sufficient food communities quickly and effectively. But would love to see that means of production get whisked from underneith these tyrant types

Donald blasts more bullshit out of his assmouth in response to honest economist’s take on his tax on Americans

    19. The 9th wonder of the world is the American economy. The 10th wonder of the world is American ignorance of the American economy.

    20. Trump is still trying to pretend that sellers will pay the tariffs, not the buyers? Idiot.
