So, people are getting older and there are less population.
As I grow older, I just tend to prefer consoles over PC. Simply because of the ease of use and quality products. It also takes less space overall, obviously it depends on your setup but when you have a family, those aspects matter.
That was counterintuitive. At least in terms of mindshare, the concept of gaming on a PC feels like it has entered the minds of a lot more people, even as just an “One day I’ll game on a PC too” aspiration.
Around the late 00s-early 10s it felt a *lot* more of a geeky fringe activity, as hardly anyone had even heard of Steam. Content creators playing on their gaming PCs have popularized the concept a lot and made the PCs something to look up to, even if most of those people only played on a Switch in reality.
A lot of people are moving to smart phone games. Going to TGS the last 2 years, 40-50% of the game booths felt like they were smart phones
Isn’t it why they are trying so hard to create markets overseas? They are already successful in it to some extent!
One thing is PC gaming parts are ridiculously expensive in Japan. FOr example ASUS ROG Astral 5090 is sold for 3299 USD in Amazon US and when you check Dospara it is 624,800 JPY. it is nearly 30% more expensive than the USD price(which would convert to (484,000 JPY). And while a guy in the US can buy the 5090 with half of his monthly salary, in Japan even if you earn 10M yen yearly you cannot buy the 5090 with you one month salary.
