      Nothing is ever as bad as it’s made out to be or as great

      If you live in one of the major Texas cities (Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio) – they tend to lean liberal, most people mind their own business, its plenty diverse

      The grid is dumb, the weather sucks, and the politicians are dumb. But on a day to day practical sense, its fine.

      There are some amazing and accepting parts of the red state Texas. Granted the majority of the state is pretty bad but the larger cities are mostly very diverse and celebrate it.

      Texas has lots that’s great about it. The food is delicious. There are awesome historical sites. There are some wonderful people. There’s a lot bad happening at the government level with regard to individual rights and we have to keep fighting against that. But I think about people like those at Templo Sion on San Jacinto street spending their weekends handing out clothes and food to those in need and I remember all the good hearted folks that live in the state. And I want better for them.

      I live in Texas. Don’t give us credit. Garbage place to live. Everyone is always passed off because it’s constantly so hot and there are tons of bigots.

      Lol it’s a shit hole. One of the worst places in United States to live.

      Horrible people, hideous landscapes, hot as hell. Not a lot to love. The show is great but it is an idealized version of what Texas thinks it is.

      It’s a show about weighing traditions against progress and how there is good and bad with both as well as good and bad people in both.

      Hank is the very definition of a well meaning John McCain style republican. He means well but sometimes his traditions have negative consequences and sometimes his traditions have positive consequences. He otherwise is relatively open-minded when showing him the good parts of progress.

      i mean, i guess if you consider a really mediocre presidential museum and living in an area where you can make a living out of pretending to open up a pig farming operation to be quintessential to making a great city sure.

      As someone who grew up in Texas, no. It’s a garbage state with the worst people in the US.

      I watched it… Must have missed the “Texas is great” message seems like it could just have easily taken place in any state really.

      I will patiently wait for King of the Hill to show us how women and children dying from lack of reproductive healthcare and bleeding out in hospital parking lots can be great.

      Unless you think in black and white, this is not a lesson it is just common sense considering Texas is larger than many countries.

      I have only been to Texas once in my life, and it was over 40 years ago. Our family was moving from VA to CA and we drove cross country. We were in a motel in Texas, I was 13. My parents gave me money to walk down to a market to get some snacks. As I was walking, I noticed an African American walking on the sidewalk maybe 20 yards away. A pickup truck drove by… slammed on the breaks, did a u-turn, drove by the person walking and yelled something like, “get out the streets, N*****”

      Besides being hot and having lot stretches of nothing to see of interest to a 13 year old, that is the entirety of my memory of Texas. When I was in college, I was told by some from Texas that it was still pretty accurate to what much if Texas is today. I would hope I’m wrong.

      Clearly satire of Texas culture but I can see people not understanding that.

      Archie Bunker wasn’t supposed to be liked but I think as the years went by, they softened up the character to be lovable.

      Hank isn’t as extreme. Deep down he has integrity. Something anyone can cheer for.

      I thought the reboot was fantastic. Just like the old king of the hill but with some fresh themes and problems.

      And then I remember it’s a fictional city, and I feel better about continuing to hate Texas

      I really liked how they spent so much time on developing Bobby as an adult character.
