Headline of „Harris shamed into meeting parents he ignored until after their child died“ sounds more accurate

    2. Is there a neutral unbiased account of this issue? Is it as bad as it sounds for Harris?

He should have met them 100% but like with other things like cervical scandal it’s difficult to know if the care issues involved are as commonly understood. I do note several surgeons refused to operate, over a long period.

I don’t see how Harris meeting them before would have made the slight bit of difference?

I don’t want our politicians making any decisions on individual medical cases.

This is tragic, that boy deserved better but the reality is if we want world class healthcare then it needs to be paid for – no amount of political interference will solve it.

Harris is the worse politician Wicklow has even produced. And that’s saying a lot as we also elected Steven Donnelly .

Harris should go over this and that’s ok for me to say as an anonymous internet person with no connections. Peader Tobín coming out and saying Harris should go in the wake of a tragic death is a pathetic attempt at politics. Has it been two weeks?

    6. What infuriates me most about this situation isn’t Harris’ response (or lack there of) it’s the people trying to defend it.

I absolutely understand that politics is 90% spin, and even the worst things can be spun to seem less terrible (looking at you 40k homes in 2024), but this is utterly indefensible.

Simon Harris made a public promise that no child would wait more than 4 months for scoliosis surgery. Harvey Sherratt waited five years and ultimately died.

That’s it. That’s the story. A broken promise and a deceased child, and I am fucking *furious* that Simon Harris isn’t on his knees begging that fucking family for forgiveness.

      Disgusting man.

Disgusting that the death of a child with a very complex and severe medical condition is being used as a political football by some people who just (understandably) don’t like Harris.

Can I just say this. Everyone here must be careful about amplifying the grief of the parents and the family here. This is high, high intensity. If you understand the trauma and shock the loss of a child causes, and I’m not saying I’m an expert, but I have lived a bit, you’ll understand to treat it sensitively.

Please don’t over politicise it in a manner that fans the flames.

    9. He’s been lying about doing the same for numerous people, from the numerous scandals… Nothing changes

    10. Why bother with the facade, Harris? Just ignore the problem, retreat back to your lair, and come election time the Irish will reelect you as they always do, for some strange reason

Please make sure the meeting is recorded ~ can’t wait to see him go all praying mantis. Obviously he wants to just save his career at this point.

    12. No words to describe how I feel about this waste of oxygen. He needs to RESIGN!!!
