      We’re almost there, guys! Once we hit Great Depression numbers of layoffs, wages, and satisfaction we will be great again!

      “In July, there were 62,075 job cuts announced, according to a report by outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas. That’s a 29 percent jump from June and 140 percent higher than the 25,885 announced in July 2024.

      The July figure is well above the post-pandemic average for the month (23,584 between 2021 and 2024) and slightly higher than the past decade’s July average of 60,398. It pushes the 2025 total to 806,383 layoffs—a 75 percent increase compared with the same period last year and already 6 percent higher than all of 2024. It’s the highest January-to-July figure since 2020, when pandemic shutdowns drove layoffs above 1.8 million.

      The surge in layoffs in 2025 is due to a mix of government downsizing, corporate restructuring and the growing effects of artificial intelligence. Public agencies, tech firms and retailers are leading the cuts.”

      Next month Trump’s numbers people will offer that inflation is .5% and employment is up by 450000 being a new record.

      Markets will crash. No one will buy US bonds. US Dollar will fall. Trump will smile and be given a new presidential yacht from Saudi Arabia.

      We’re just getting started, the government layoffs are only just beginning and expect a lot more private sector layoffs in the near future courtesy of the rapist and pedo in the White House

      I am not sure what the root of the problem is because it predates the Trump administration but the official major statistics on economic health (employment, inflation, wages, etc) do not jive with reality. Anyone who works full time, buys groceries, or has to get back-to-school supplies for their kids recognizes that things are NOT ok.

      So when Trump fires the lead official on economic data because the numbers were „bad“ it’s doubly concerning; if anything the numbers reported were painting a much rosier picture.

      I am not an expert but it really feels like the economic situation in the US is a house of cards right now. The trajectory of what things cost, wages, unemployment, and how much debt people are taking on – it just doesn’t add up. Add to this the rapid advancement of AI & automation and it feels like the front tires have already left the cliff.

      The only time I would use great and trump together is trump is creating a Great Depression. These are layoffs are in direct correlation to his awful tariff policy.

      I’m calling BS on the „AI“ claim. Who has had their job replaced by AI?

      I could believe that computer science has been hit by AI, but they’re claiming in the article that it’s the „dull, dirty“ jobs being replaced. Yet, AI isn’t even currently capable of replacing a person. AI „agents“ fail horribly at most jobs.

      I think that companies are gearing up for a recession. They’re being hit hard by import taxes, online competition, and consumers who don’t want to spend. AI is just a convenient excuse, and it drives the hype train that’s propping up the stock market right now.

      Layoffs is a last resort for businesses when it comes to employee reduction. I would hate to think of how many jobs are eliminated with zero tolerance policies. My job lost 40 people, or 25% of personnel, since the start of the new year.

      At least like the last recession young folks can take shelter in higher education until it blows over and become our next generation of scientists and engineers.

      At my job, a mid sized regional brewery, we’ve laid off 3 people in the past few weeks, and yesterday we’ve all been told we need to cut hours. The writing is on the wall. I’ve been in the industry for almost 15 years in various roles. Been trying to find a job elsewhere and not having much luck. It’s a war zone out there.
