Michael Chiklis sagt, Original „Fantastic Four“ -Filme „haben viel richtig“ und es gab „viele kritische Leute, die es falsch verstanden haben“.

> “There were a lot of people, I think, critically who got it wrong,” Chiklis said. “They really maligned our films, and they were very underrated considering… they were very loved by the audience. It was one of those cases where critics weren’t great to those films, but the audience was, and that still remains.”

> He continued, “I’ve always sort of quietly gone like, ‘Okay, say what you want to say, but the people see it.’ And now all these years later, people are sort of acknowledging like, hey, these films are family-friendly, fun movies… they got a lot right. They may be imperfect, but they’re really good movies.”

I was 9 when the first one came out and I thought it was awesome at the time. Watched it and the sequel again not so long ago and honestly, I do think they’re a little underrated, but they’re not what Chiklis thinks they were.

They’re fun movies

I personally found them both a bit boring. Which was too bad since I liked the characters and the performances, but all I remember f the first movie is it feels like they never did anything until the last 15 minutes, and I don’t actually remember the second movie at all even though I know I’ve seen it more than once, with the most recent time being post-Covid.

They were shit. Chris Evans was a great Human Torch though. And Chiklis himself was at least a passable Ben Grimm. But both movies were bad.

It’s okay to admit that some movies of our favorite properties were, and remain, shit. We don’t have to keep rewriting history to decide in hindsight that we were wrong and actually the Star Wars prequels were great, and Green Lantern, and so on. They sucked then, they suck now. Are we going to have big Thor 2 apologists in 20 years? „Akshually Justice League was a masterpiece…“

i actually agree with him on the first one, it is not 28% rotten tomatoes bad, and he was a great Thing. i thought rise of the silver surfer was genuinely terrible though.

I was 8 and 10 when they came out, they’re nothing special. That said, he was good as The Thing and I really respect the use of practical effects in hindsight. I also really liked Jessica Alba in them at the time, but for different reasons

I like Michael Chiklis, but he needs to just keep quiet about how good those movies were. Look to the future, Mike.

Its a decent movie. Wasn’t great. But also its very much a product of its time. It was made when super hero movies had very little comic people involved in it. They either dont know what makes those characters great, or are given tight deadlines with a lot of exec oversite control trying to maximize product placement.

Having Sue’s character boiled down to “wah but my wedding” in the second movie is a pretty rough watch if you know her character even slightly from the comics

The originals had Chris Evans half naked for half of the runtime and in spandex for the remaining portion.

The originals got it right.

I would always defend the 2000s Fantastic four movies as better than the internet likes to claim, but all the recent revisiting has shown me that it was a solid cast let down by plot and pacing.

There are elements that are great, especially the Thing, for me to say they’re a mixed bag.
