Future…? Have you looked outside lately?
So it’s a contemporary drama?
Been playing Subnautica recently, and it’s impressive how much all these sci-fi media have been screaming this trope in our ears all these years. And looking at today, this all but feels like prediction.

Isn’t the lead character Kyle Chandler’s nepobaby, who’s getting into acting now in their 30’s? Interesting way to start your career and to then insult your co-lead and showrunner
Yes…. that’s always been a thing in alien, almost all (with the exception of 3) usually kick off as such
1, Weyland-Yutani doesn’t tell anyone about classified cargo and someone gets curious. Thinking its booze
2, a Weyland-Yutani settlement Is running experiments or growing xenos in a basement and a non employee opens a door that’s usually locked
3, weyland-yutani writes off a settlement to run tests to see how effective synthetics can be at combat missions and see if you can program them to hunt xenomorphs
They could have just made it a corporate hellscape and it would be just as frightening without the aliens.
I’m glad they’re leaning into this–this was a HUGE part of the first two movies (the Burke character in Aliens isn’t gross enough, lol), and while they leaned into it in a heavier way in *Prometheus* and showing how the wealth and ego of a man brought about destruction, they still didn’t dive in headfirst.
I’m glad shows are starting to detail this. If you need a quicker fix, read some of the science fiction/cyberpunk from the 90s, a lot of it is about how democracy is going to be eroded by corporate interests.
Cyberpunk Dystopia stopped feeling fictional at some point and is now just a realistic look into the near future.

This has been the central theme of Alien franchise movies. It started with space truckers just trying trying to earn a buck, up to terraformers building better worlds for Yutani, and most recently people living as corporate slaves on Jackson’s Star.
Even in Resurrection the people were oppressed by a corpo-paramilitary organization out for profits over life.
The future is now, old man.
You’ll be surprised how many old school Doctor Who episodes had the same thing too.
The deep irony of this being made by Disney must be lost on them. Might as well change the company name to Weyland Yutani.
