> “We did everything we could when we could,” Aniston told Vanity Fair about trying to help Perry during his long struggle with addiction both during “Friends’” run and after. “But it almost felt like we’d been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight. As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there’s a part of me that thinks this is better. I’m glad he’s out of that pain.”
It’s giving self appointed spokesperson for the family vibes
That’s a dumb thing to say
The only thing dumber than addiction is hearing people who don’t understand it try to rationalize in a way that fits their own narcissistic outlook and mental wellbeing
I realize how this sounds but also as someone who has watched a loved one struggling with addiction I get it.
Yeah. That makes sense.
100% this. Anyone with an addict in their family knows exactly what she is talking about.
Matthew Perry was an accomplished tennis player prior to acting. I learned this after watching an episode where he guest starred on the original 90210 season 1.
Maybe I’m too cynical, but I’d guess that most celebrities’ definition of “everything we could” has a much lower bar than the rest of us
So hands up I’m in a relationship with an alcoholic. And it’s fucking hard not to mourn the person they were before the fun times turned into need. I honestly really get where Jennifer is coming from
anyone that loves someone who has an addiction issue will totally understand what she’s saying
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is walk away. My sister is a heroin addict. I watched her drift in and out of prison. Her final incarceration I quit talking with her. Only way I know would start speaking with her is if she remained sober.
Move forward about 10 years. She is sober and is running a rehab center. She will tell you her bottom was me. It hurt her more than anything her big brother walked away. She has repeatedly told me I helped start her recovery. That was all on her. I had nothing to do with her finding the strength. 🤷
