My latest: Israel’s ambassador to Australia accused Canberra of rewarding terrorism after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his country would formally recognize a Palestinian state in September.
Australia is the latest major country to announce the move to recognize the State of Palestine, following the U.K., France, and Canada, amid escalating concern about the dire situation in Gaza as Israel wages war against the Hamas militant group.
If one observes the recent chain of events then you’ll realise that it’s a trend . Many countries especially the US allies are now expressing to move forward with recognition of Palestine.
It looks like they want to send a message to America, Trump has humiliated ans bullied its allies into submission and now they are getting back at him via Israel . They know the weak point of Trump
Because if this happens it would not only be considered as the biggest geopolitical failure of Trumps Tenure but a big failure of American Diplomacy and American Interest.

As an Aussie, the Israeli ambassador is 100% correct. Embarrassing for us to sheep along with the trend which tries to blame something on Israel which Hamas is preventing from ending.
The same people who think Israel is at sole fault and can magically unilaterally end this war and find peace, think the same about us and our allies in the wars we’ve fought together. Korea, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, Kuwait, Vietnam.
Even more ridiculous is that these country’s recognitions also require Hamas to be removed from power and disarmed, and then democratic elections…
It’s like if people were pressuring us in the 2000s to make peace with Afghanistan, disarm the Taliban and start democratic elections? That’s exactly what we were trying to do and that’s why it was such a drawn out shit show.
Does this make any sense to anyone?

If Palestine achieves statehood before Hamas eradication, it is the same thing as giving statehood to a terrorist organization. That being said this seems to be a trend now. Countries claiming they will recognize it without any concise plan or borders. I think this is just political bs to goad attention and positive following for their future elections.

As awful as things are on the ground in Gaza, I remain very cynical about these types of political moves. Irrespective of if this is a reward for Hamas or whatever, it’s mostly a symbolic gesture to recognise Palestine. And if I see it correctly (maybe I don’t), this doesn’t carry that much weight. Palestine doesn’t become a real state just because it’s being recognised which is visible by the fact that a lot of countries recognise it already. I don’t see most western countries doing something really constructive to end the war and find some sort of solution.

This is ridiculous. Palestine has no government and no defined borders as of yet. They are in open conflict with Israel and have no control whatsoever.
This should have been done when there were some semblance of peace in the region and not now when emotions run high.
Why not recognize Kurdistan before Palestine? And if Palestine is recognized, it should be conditioned on Palestine recognizing Israel and its borders at the same time.
It doesn’t solve anything, it’s just virtue signaling.

Isreal has had every chance to prevent this by showing restraint engaging hamas but they have forgotten the horrors inflicted on them during the holocaust and are intent with wiping out Palestine. This does have the danger of rewarding terrorists for getting 60 000 people killed and taking hostages but isreal has left little choice. They had every chance.

Australia’s position on the recognition, for reference:
> “Australia will recognize the right of the Palestinian people to a state of their own predicated on the commitments Australia has received from the Palestinian Authority,” Albanese said at a press conference.
> Albanese said Australia had sought and received assurances from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas that Hamas would play no role in any future Palestinian state.
> Other conditions include a commitment to demilitarize and to hold general elections, abolish a “system of payments to the families of prisoners and martyrs,” and governance and education reform, as well as “international oversight to guard against the incitement of violence and hatred,” Albanese said.

Pretty rich of Israel to complain about „rewarding terrorism“ when not one, but TWO former Israeli PMs were leaders of terrorist organisations (who carried out bombings against civilians and assassinated British government officials).

Australia’s attitude is spot on. Give legitimacy to the Palestinian Authority, and not Hamas. Hopefully, this will lead to pressure on Israel to allow the deployment of peacekeepers who will clear out Hamas and establish normalcy in Gaza.
