Well dude, you’re someone who could do something about it, like that time we *cutaway*

    2. There was this great sci-fi show, like Star Trek but with comedy, that fit this role perfectly. Unfortunately, the guy in charge kept taking years between seasons and it’s no longer on the air…

I have an idea then: make animated shows with sardonic content meant to negatively riff culture into dystopian soup of cynicism. (Now read that again with Stewie’s voice)

“Give people hope”. This has real “you should smile more”. Let’s all pretend things aren’t going to shit.

„Hope“ and optimism was pretending six best friends in NYC can spend all their time together and live in massive apartments nearby.

LOL.  Getting rich with Fox during the War on Terror warped his brain.

MacFarlane: we need more uplifting content. Now, lemme finish this cartoon about squeezing bewbs.

It’s intentional. It’s meant to condition you to that kind of life. Smaller spaces, poverty, and finding the best in friendships because that’s all you’ll have and will be a slave to your overlords that consume everything else.

There are a shit load of dystopian movies and shows out there. I do think Ted Lasso resonated with people for a reason

Where? How? In what situation can we be hopeful?

That scientific advancement will some how undo all the centuries of damage we’ve built up? That even if they did the powers that be would actually utilize it instead of burying it for the money they make off the folks destroying it?

A.I? The ones run by tech bros who’ve shown a clear disregard for human decency? The one’s responsible for most of our societal failures and misinformation?

The loss of trust in science due to said factors? The sudden desire for right wing authoritarians to brute force fixes that have never worked in the history of humanity?

The rich desperately trying to stay at a godlike level of wealth so they wont have to face all the coming hardships the rest of us will?

Every sector is in decay or being undermined. We’re either advancing towards mass starvation and ecological disasters on a scale we’ve never seen… or all out war on a scale we’ve never seen.

Perhaps whatever survives that could be hopeful in a few hundred years when they climb out of the second dark age. So yeah… 10% of our great x20 grand kids might have something to look forward to. Hope after all!

Yeah, sorry. We had all the information and history we needed to not be in the position we currently are. We willfully ignored it. Now we’re attacking/dismantling the very things that tried to warn us. We’re fucked.

For more cheerful takes on our futures… don’t follow me. 😛

Easy for a middle aged white multi-millionaire to say. But he can do something about it if he wants to show more hope but I don’t see much action on his part.

    12. All well and good and the message is there but…Hope for what, Seth? Have you seen the state of the country and who’s running it? All we’d be doing is pretending things are ok,, which in itself is fine, entertainment is a form of escape, but there is little „hope“ to be had.

    13. He’s right. The media has been conditioning people in a dog eat dog mentality for decades now.

We desperately need some aspirational stuff. Nothing crazy, just some people working together for a common cause and being decent to each other for a change.

    14. seth that’s all great but maybe don’t watch the new Alien show by the looks of things

So back to the 80’s: when world annulation loomed on a daily basis while the entertainment industry filled our days with family comedy sitcoms, teen movies, and upbeat music about having a good time and not to worry. Just be happy.

    16. Said while he is working on a Dungeon Crawler Carl series. Can be fun and humorous but absolutely bleak.
