It’s just Trump once again giving Putin everything he wants. The terms are absurd but the fact that they didn’t even bother to invite Zelenskyy and the Ukrainians to the discussion is insane.
This reminds me very much of the 1938 Munich Agreement where Czechoslovakia was not invited by the UK, France, etc. to talks as to whether parts of their country would be annexed into Nazi Germany. This is basically a modern recreation of that.

This is going to be like the Munich Agreement of 1938, where Britain and France negotiated with Germany on what Czechoslovakian territory Germany would be allowed to annex. Czechoslovakia was not part of that meeting, and Germany reneged on this agreement and annexed all of Czechoslovakia anyway.
Meanwhile, Trumps’s deadline for a ceasefire passed yesterday with no new sanctions on Russia.
If it was American troops doing all the fighting and Ukraine was sitting back drinking beers and saying let us know how it all turns out, then fair enough.
But as things actually have been and are, it is up to Ukraine to decide what they will and won’t negotiate. Biden knew it, Trump is too corrupt and egotistical to think.
Zelensky is the only real leader of the three.
Why is Trump even involved? He is mentally incompetent. Isn’t Trump focussing on putting DC under control of federal law enforcement? Trump has no idea what he’s doing, or what he did or said yesterday.

Ukraine should just claim Moscow as part of its territory, and then say they’ll stop bombing it once Russia cedes control. Because that’s pretty much what Russia is doing in reverse right now.

Trump is such an idiot, a fact for which we should all be grateful. Had he simply kept his mouth shut and allowed hopes and expectations to rise in the buildup to his meeting with Putin he might have at least had some momentum behind him. It sure would not have been enough to get Zelenskyy on board to a bad deal but he may have opened a lane for compromise around the edges of a deal for which he could ultimately claim some credit. Instead he opens his big mouth, trying to pump the “ratings” and the result is the all sides are tearing down the deal before it hits the table. At this point it would not be surprising to see the meeting called off by either one or both of the parties.
How many times have Trump and Putin attempted this same thing? And they think it sl have a different result why?!
It makes ZERO sense for Ukraine to give up anything considering how much they’ve already sacrificed this century having to deal with a maniac next door. If peace and a ceasefire requires Ukraine to not being a part of NATO with maybe an opportunity to be part of the EU, then so be it, but no way they should lose any territory.
The only thing that the US should be negotiating is what it would take to get Putin and Zelensky into the same room to talk to each other. The US can offer to moderate a negotiation, but it’s not the US’s place to be dictating terms to either side.
